Georgetown, D.C. Patch:

Updated 7:12 a.m.

All District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) will be closed Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2011, to allow for a thorough assessment of school buildings following Tuesday's earthquake. School staff, except for custodians, should not report to work today. Custodians should remain on stand-by. DCPS administrative offices will open and staff should report to work on time, said Chancellor Kaya Henderson.

"Understanding the impact to working parents and families, we made every effort to keep schools open," Chancellor Henderson said.

Aftermath?! Why don't the people of DC ask the people of Japan what aftermath really looks and feels like. This is completely sensationalized. There will probably be a movie made about the DC quake. On the west coast, there are places that routinely have anywhere from 5.0-6.0 daily. The government will probably take a month off to recover from the shock and trauma. pfft.

Pfft, here in California we don't even let em out of class early for anything under a 6.0

Of course the DC schools are closed! Everything in the schools spilled on the floors and some windows are busted out. Do not forget most of the buildings in the eastern half of the USA are NOT built to withstand any kind of earthquake!

thank goodness this quake arrived the day before school started instead of the first day of school. such a blessing.

Weather Channel says the earthquake was caused by an unknown faultline running under D.C. and through Virginia. It is now being called Obama's Fault. Some think it was the founding fathers rolling over in their graves! Obama will say it's really Bush's Fault. Breaking News: Seismologists have confirmed that it WAS an earthquake and NOT the 14.6 trillion dollar check bouncing on the East Coast..

Given the state of DC schools, more earthquakes are probably needed.

If you didnt "feel a thing" then your plane had gone too far when the quake occurred.
