Kerry Collins, Colts Agree To Terms: Veteran QB Comes Out Of Retirement

Peyton's Place? Colts Bring QB Out Of Retirement

This doesn't sound good for Peyton Manning. Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay tweeted Wednesday morning that his team has agreed to terms with veteran quarterback Kerry Collins.

ESPN's Adam Schefter wrote on his Twitter page that the signing provides "ultimate proof" that Manning's availability for Week 1 at Houston and beyond is in doubt.

The Colts' star underwent neck surgery during the offseason, and revealed on Saturday that he still needed to use the next two weeks to get healthy. According to Chris Mortensen, the team does not think Manning will be ready for the season opener.

Manning's injury also puts his streak of 227 consecutive starts in jeopardy.

The 38-year-old Collins retired in July during the lockout after 16 seasons in the NFL.

Coming out of Penn State, Collins was the fifth overall pick in the 1995 NFL draft for the expansion Carolina Panthers. He led Carolina to the NFC Championship Game in his second season and later, led the New York Giants to the Super Bowl in 2001.
