After news that Steve Jobs stepped down from his post as CEO of Apple surfaced, Twitter overflowed with reactions.

While some carried a slightly comedic tone, most expressed concern for Jobs's health.

In his letter to the Apple board of directors and the Apple community, Jobs said that despite his resignation, he remains optimistic that Apple's best days are still ahead of it.

As for a successor, Apple announced in a press release that the board has named Tim Cook the new CEO and has appointed Jobs chairman of the board.

Take a scroll through the tweets and tell us what you think about his resignation. Read more about what Jobs's resignation means for Apple here.

Apple is an amazing company, and I am sure Steve Jobs will still have a say in it. Even when he's gone, his legacy will live on in innovation and creativity.

The iPhone 5 may be the last of Apple's smart phones. I hope not, but with the absence of Steve Jobs things may not happen as usual. Ugh....

This is the end of an era. Steve Jobs started this company from the ground level along with Wozniak in 1976 by HANDBUILDING computers and selling them as the first personal computers. Wozniak was an electronics wiz before that and it was Jobs who had the idea of making and selling personal computers.

His departure from Apple is almost like the personal computer industry coming full circle with itself. It started with Apple and it looks like its now starting to wind down. There will always be faster, better personal computers but the demand for them is slowing down.

This announcement wasn't all that much of a surprise, was it? He's not looked very healthy his last two appearances. Wonder how the stock market will react.

I wouldn't want to own Apple stock tomorrow.

He did okay for fooling people into wasting a lot of money on an antiquated computer platform for desktops and laptops (UNIX) and believing that tablets (first introduced by Microsoft 11 years ago) were a necessity and on barely innovating anything when competition arose. I know the fanboys don't like hearing the truth but it must be said. Also, let the dumping of Apple stock begin.

What a genius, what vision - he and The Woz rock. Thank you Steve! I hope your health recovers and that you have a long, happy life away from business and with your family.

Really???? Who cares that Steve Jobs resigned? The man was not a true "inventor", just a savvy marketer. He never really created anything himself, he just pushed the real geniuses to produce then got his name associated with the product. He often did so in an arrogant, condescending way. I admit, I like his leadership style; that's as much admiration as I will confess. Remember, he got special treatment with his liver transplant that should have outraged everyone. Nobody, absolutely nobody, could have moved to another state and gotten a liver transplant for metastatic cancer in a 6-month period of time. Nobody. In fact, that is considered a waste of an organ that could have gone to someone with a curable disease. Thanks, Steve.

People, remember this. HE designed the succession plan. Chances are it's a pretty good design.

Steve, you are the BEST! You've taken care of Apple since its inception; now it is time to take care of your health. We are all behind you -- you are one of the heros of our generation. Get away from the stress, but stay in touch with your company (as I know you will). We want you with us for a long, long time to come -- so please focus your energies on you. You are loved by so many. Have never had an Apple computer to be honest -- but I know they are the BEST -- so are YOU!
