Jon Stewart Hosting Nirvana Survivors Reunion On Sirius XM Radio

08/25/11 03:17 PM ET   AP

Nirvana

NEW YORK — Comedy Central's Jon Stewart will host a Q&A session with the surviving members of rock band Nirvana to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its album "Nevermind."

Stewart will host the event on SiriusXM for two hours on Sept. 24. It will feature fans, Nirvana band members Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic, and Butch Vig, the producer behind "Nevermind." Kurt Cobain, the band's lead singer, committed suicide in 1994.

"Nevermind" was the band's second album and has sold 10 million units in the United States. It features Nirvana's biggest hit, "Smells Like Teen Spirit."

Grohl is now the lead singer of the Foo Fighters.

SiriusXM will also launch the all-Nirvana channel, Nevermind Radio, on Sept. 23 until Sept. 28.

One of the greatest bands of all time. I love Nevermind, but In Utero is probably my favorite.

I still miss Nirvana. Its nice that the Foo-Fighters stemmed from this bleakness and now create really good music.

20 years... wow! i remember hearing teen spirit when i was 17 for the first time on headbangers ball and was an INSTANT fan! i wouldn't be who i am today were it not for that record. after i turned 18 i moved to seattle to try and become a rockstar... alas i'm a construction man now but i wouldn't give up my experiences for anything... dave grohl is in my top 3 for drummers...

Nirvana were only a big deal to people stuck listening to pop radio and MTV. There were many cutting edge bands that were doing pretty much the same thing at the time. Nothing they did were that original.

I have to agree with some other postings on this thread. "Survivors" is not an appropriate term. Maybe "The guys that didn't shoot themselves" might be more appropriate.

Kurt was a Talented Man, Good Looking Kid, I think Drugs did him, they take you just so far, then dump you off a cliff, that cliff is almost impossible to climb back up, things are not the same.

RIP

He was a good song writer, but that was about it. He should have sold the rights (to his songs) to Grohl, allowed him make the music, and not have tried to deal with the fame he couldn't handle.

Most Real Musicians are not Businessmen, and when the Business gets bigger than the Music....

Take for instance Bon Jovi, he is a businessman that is why his music blows and he has no problem dragging that product around as long as it still sells, sure he is Professional and all, and can play, by it is an "Act". Nothing wrong with an "Act" but it is not really music.

Note that Foo Fighters are not Nirvana either, a lot better than Bon Jovi, but not as Musical as Kurt.

Just my opinion, I know, who cares.

Unplugged was truly brilliant. It is probably my favorite, not because of the quality of the performances but because it was such a personal experience of the performances. They were no longer separated by the studio glass or the mosh pit. They were sitting in your living room, right next to you.

It gets my vote, as well.

Nirvana was the beginning of the end musically. They are like reality TV. People say that Cobain was like Lennon? No,...more like Johnny Rotten and the sex pistols. Timely, above average....and really unexceptional.

Doesn't this just sound awesome?
11:32 PM on 08/25/2011
"Surviving Members" makes it sound as though these two escaped an inferno of flames or a horrific wreck that claimed the life of Kurt. Not a big fan of Nirvana, but I respect these boys for not replacing Kurt as Sublime has done with Brad.
06:25 PM on 08/26/2011
Sublime has actually replaced Brad. They have a new singer named Rome - the band now goes by the name Sublime with Rome. I just caught them live in CA a week ago and they killed it.

Yes, as I said.
