Amusement Parks In Indiana: A Huffington Post Travel Guide

Amusement parks in Indiana are the perfect places to go for a day of fun or even a weekend getaway with the family. A guaranteed hit with the kids, these parks will be sure to provide parents with some time for relaxation as well. As part of a Huffington Post Travel series on amusement parks, here is our guide to all the key information visitors need to know about Indiana amusement parks.

Holiday World & Splashin' Safari

Holiday World & Splashin' Safari has been voted one of the nation's friendliest water parks for the past 12 consecutive years, and with plenty of thrilling coasters for all ages, the park provides hours of fun for parents and children alike. Because it's located in the world-famous Santa Claus, Indiana, guests might want to extend their visit a few extra days to see what else the area has to offer.

Wildebeest

The amusement park's claim to fame is the Wildebeest ride, which holds the title as the world's longest water coaster. The impressive roller coaster is a third of a mile in length and is chock-full of hills, drops -- including a four-story drop at a 45-degree angle -- and plenty of unexpected twists.

Coasters And Water Rides

In addition to its famous Wildebeest ride, Holiday World & Splashin' Safari has many other roller coasters and water rides for the entire family. (Holiday World is a theme park and Splashin' Safari is a water park.) Guests may also enjoy a variety of live shows and entertainment, including storytelling with Santa Claus, a high-energy diving show, music and theater productions.

A Little Of Everything

From healthy options to guilty pleasures, guests won't have a problem finding grub to chow down on when visiting Holiday World & Splashin' Safari. Restaurants located within the amusement park include Kringle's Kafe for burgers, pizza and hot dogs; Plymouth Rock Cafe for a Thanksgiving-style meal; and ZOOMbabwe Grill, among many others. The park actually offers free soft drinks, as well as free sunscreen, parking and Wi-Fi.

Indiana Beach Amusement Park

Indiana Beach is one of the state's premier amusement parks. It offers everything from traditional park rides to adventure-inspired activities like zip lines, high ropes and rock climbing. Of course, the park also lives up to its name, providing visitors with a relaxing beach -- the perfect break from thrilling rides. With a variety of dining options and state-of-the-art, well-maintained facilities, Indiana Beach will not disappoint.

The Sun And Sand

Before expanding into an amusement park, Indiana Beach was simply a sandy beach that provided guests with a place to dive into cool water on hot summer days. The water aspect of the park is still its top priority and, perhaps, its biggest attraction. Patrons can enjoy a swimming area with a sand beach in addition to a water park that boasts "six of the Midwest's largest and wildest waterslides."

Arcades And Kids Rides

In addition to its well-regarded water park, Indiana Beach has children's rides, thrill rides and family rides. It also has arcade and fair-inspired games (like Skee-Ball and Whack-A-Mole), a designated retail area and a number of high-energy shows for the family to watch, including water sport performances and fireworks.

Grab And Go

Indiana Beach provides numerous dining options for its guests. Many of the food options -- like Dippin' Dots, elephant ears and funnel cakes -- are easy to grab and go when purchased at stands scattered throughout the park. Also available are sit-down restaurants, including the Burger Shake, Skyroom Restaurant and Roof Garden Lounge.
