NYC Hurricane: Locals Stock Up On Storm Supplies As Irene Approaches New York (Twitter Photos)

It's official: A hurricane warning has been issued for the New York City area, and president Barack Obama has signed a disaster order for New York state as Hurricane Irene continued to threaten the Big Apple Friday evening.

After reports of empty shelves at hardware stores and long lines at grocery stores started coming in, we took to Twitter to ask New Yorkers to submit pictures of what they're doing to prepare for the storm. Some folks braved the crowds at local shops and took evacuation orders seriously, but others seemed content with some alcohol and snacks to hold them over.
