I think people voted in republicans hoping for a moderating influence in the congress, not gridlock. Most polls show that the democrats approval in congress in marginally better than republicans.

Again, its meaningless.................everyone dislikes congres, but everyone likes their congressperson. The GOP were put in power i nthe House to provide a check and balance to what was unstoppable liberal mush coming out of congress and the WH. Its not everyday you see 63 seat swings i nthe House....people wanted balance...as annoying as it is, its better to have divided g'ment. one party rule has proven to be pretty bad no matter which party has the power.

As annoying as it may seem you really should try reading the poll before you comment on it. Only 38 % Would like to see their OWN member of congress reelected. As to a divided congress, people see that as different then a gridlocked congress. They expect things to be done even when they don't always like the results. Expect to see a record number of primary challenges this year as people look for an alternative to their congress person without voting for the other party.

Uhh, you really need to change the headline. It's amazingly misleading.

This poll: Romney -2. PPP says: Romney -13.
This poll: Bachmann -8. PPP says: Bachmann -18.
This poll: Cain -6. PPP says: Cain -16.
This poll: Perry -3. PPP says: Perry -13.

Hmmmm.

Yes they are two different polls working undoubtedly with different assumptions. The negatives remain. Because of the differences in these polls it is probably best not to compare them to each other but to follow the trend in each. If the direction of change in the polls differs than we know than at least one of them has a serious problem.

I get how PP gets their head to head polls to lean left so much.

But I have no choice but to believe their favorability ratings of all Repubs they pull straight out of their axzes. This AP poll is D+11, for Jesus' sake..

Stillow,

This is the worst showing for GOP congressional folks in years. Let me guess the american people are misguided fools to actually blame the h of r for something that's all Obama's fault right?

You forget about the half of Congress that's still controlled by the Dems.

But hey, maybe you're right and people are in love with the idea of not passing a budget for 800+ days and think the Senate is just dandy.
10:59 AM on 08/26/2011
Dave touched on it a bit. You do understand that "Congress" is made up of two branches, the House and the Senate right?

So when "Congress" is referred too, people are talking about both chambers, one controlled by Dems, one by the GOP. I don't think anyone on this blog including myself would say they curretnly approve of Congress' job performance. For different reasons I am sure......but to the original point* you were trying to make, a low approval of Congress is a negative mark on btoh parties, since both parties share equal power in Congress. So I have no idea where the GOP "folks" thing you speak of comes from.

You do understand Stillow, that this greater disapproval has come AFTER the Republicans took control of the House and wanted the United States to default on its debt? Or is this too deep for you?

12% was the low for the Pelosi congress, and in 2009 it was polling around 45%. Boehner congress started out pretty low and hasn't ever been above 30 I don't think.

So Reid isn't the whole problem.
