Funniest Post-Hurricane Irene Tweets So Far (SLIDESHOW)

First Posted: 08/28/11 07:10 PM ET   Updated: 10/28/11 06:12 AM ET

We've said it before and we'll say it again: no event can be properly processed until there's a funny Twitter slideshow to go along with it. And Hurricane Irene's march along the eastern seaboard is no different.

Much of Sunday's tweeted jokes were focused on Irene's lack of destruction in New York City. Not that anyone wanted the city to be devastated, it's just that they expected a little more than heavy rain and mild flooding. Of course, for every sarcastic tweet, there were five others proclaiming jokesters to be glib in the face of good fortune, and they might have a point. Nevertheless, we thought these were hilarious.

Best of luck to everyone in their cleanup efforts; hopefully, these tweets will give you something to laugh about in the process.

so just because new york was spared the whole thing must have been a joke?! tell that to the dozens of families who have lost loved ones. or the people who have lost their homes and every posession.
I enjoy the jokes as much as the next person, but new yorkers need to get over themselves. just because it didn't affect you, doesn't mean it wan't horrific for others.

well when the NYC media is mostly covering the NYC repercussions, how are they to know? Also New Yorkers have as much right to find humor in their own hurricane experience as do the families of dead or injured have to their grief. Its not like these twitter jokers are going out of the city and laughing in people's faces.

40 people are dead so far. Difficult to see Hur. Irene as a non-event.

We were lucky. So, I'll put my hurricane supplies in a bin for the rest of the season and hope I don't use them again.
We lost power for about an hour, flashlights came in handy. Other people around me only got it back yesterday. Others still have not.
We were under tornado warnings; wished I had a basement. Threw some pillows and a spread in my bathroom. Tried to get the cats in there--didn't go well. Two ran under the bed. I looked around the bathroom and at my husband, I said "f it, let's finish our poker game."
It's part of our hurricane procedure that could use some work.
Greta had to go check out the pillows and spread in the bathroom. The bathtub was as recommended, full. We heard a kerplunk, a splash, and saw a wet cat careening out of the bathroom.
That was funny.
On the news....we could have done with a a few less windblown reporters and more information. I had to go to the computer for movement, wind speed and position. The radio was informative--mostly talk, closures, road closures, and a couple tornado warnings. Thankfully no tornado.
Any ol' way, with all the "news" I will say, I could have used a little more Information.
Funny moments not so funny storm.

Why is common sense so rare?

Laughter is a great thing, if it's shared. And the essential component of comedy is timing.
For me,and millions of others, Irene's effects are still being felt, as massive flooding continues downstream from upstate New York and Vermont. Millions of people are without power and many have lost their lives, their homes and their businesses.
So, sadly, the "comedy" is being lost on us.
Hey, where were you guys when New Orleans got hit?

Nice ending. Yeah, when you've stopped being journalists and are no longer reporting real news and the only real news you're allowed to report is a hurricane, I guess you're going to go overboard. You betcha.

Yeah, but let's not forget that HP, CNN, and MSNBC were all over it too.

How about most beautiful cloud formation in Bethlehem, pa. Pre-Irene (Friday) that should have told us in mid-Atlantic something about Irene http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThkNh2brJJg

what is so funny about the man who was electrocuted... nothing funny about that.. it is a sad
situation.... i did not see anything funny about the hurricane. it cost considerable hardships on many people and then it will be even harder to have to pay for all the devistation....

That's too bad, Fran, because if you can't laugh at the absurdities of life, even when they're mixed in with genuine sadness, it's harder to escape the sadness in life.

There are about 40 people right now not laughing.

There is an article in the Impact section about a man who was electrocuted trying to save a kid. This is also related to Hurricane Irene. Funny stuff eh........NOT. Maybe the hurricane wasn't as devastating as they thought it would be but people still were affected by it. Some even passed away. Funniest tweets.........tweet this.

Who was making fun of the man who was electrocuted? They were all about the build-up of Irene by the media.

The death toll of the hurricane is very saddening, and I'm sure most (if not all) of the tweeters would agree.

Does anyone have a clip of #12?  I heard about some exaggerated news casts interrupted by people just hanging out and want to see it lol.

I feel like this would've been funnier if no one had actually been affected by Irene. I mean, I laughed at the jokes from last week but the aftermath isn't so funny anymore.
