Anna Wintour At The US Open, Looks Moderately Happy To Be There (PHOTOS)

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 08/30/2011 5:40 pm   Updated: 10/30/2011 5:12 am

Anna Wintour is known for being cold, unsmiling and basically the most intimidating individual in fashion (despite what she may say).

But sit the Vogue editor-in-chief down at a tennis match and suddenly it's a whole new Anna!

The editrix is an ardent tennis fan, putting Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer in her magazine (the latter even got his own party) and attending all the major matches -- the US Open, the French Open, Wimbledon (to which she wore Prada!)... Anna's been spotted grinning at them all.

On Monday, a happy-looking Wintour took in the first day of the US Open in New York, wearing a pink, yellow, red and purple tartan-print dress, a multistrand crystal necklace and her signature black shades. The match was between Roger Federer and Santiago Giraldo, so it's easy to guess who Anna was rooting for.

Anna looked so cheerfully un-Anna, so at home amongst the good-looking athletes in chic tennis whites, that we wanted more. Below, a look back at Anna Wintour watching tennis... and actually smiling.

She looks worse when she smiles, if that's possible.

This woman totally bothers me. She can criticize women for their weight, etc., but if you're going to be such a critic, why not get yourself up to snuff, woman. Look at that ridiculous, out-dated hair, and that sour face she's always wearing. And quite honestly, her figure and appearance is far from outstanding. She's so silly!

Her hair kills me. LOL

Anna needs to go to the gym and start lifting weights. Her flabby skin is more a sign of muscle wasting than it is of just growing old. However, one might say that as you age you are less active; therefore, more flabby. Old people's bodies at my gym look better than hers.

She's a wicked creep. She adds nothing to humanity. Scary....

Is that Anna Wintour's real hair? My hunch is her unnaturally thick, and perfectly glossy bob is more than just a signature hairstyle. I bet it's a very expensive wig.

According to Wikipedia, Anna Wintour is now 61 years old, and if you look at the quality of the skin on her face and body, it definitely shows her age. The one feature that looks far younger than her age is her hair, which is unnaturally thick and glossy for a 61 year old woman, even one who can afford to have her hair professionally styled every day. In fact, if you examine the photo of Anna sitting with her daughter, the daughter's hair is much thinner than the mother's, which suggests something is up.

Most likely Anna has a large collection of nearly identical, handmade, human hair wigs and rotates them to create her signature look. A Dutchboy bob with bangs is the perfect style for a wig because the bangs hide the front hairline which is the biggest giveaway that a woman is wearing a wig. It's much easier to create a natural looking part, which Anna has, than a natural looking hairline, which is hidden by the bangs.

She's trying mighty hard to hide behind the perfect hairdo, the designer shades, the sparkly jewelry and the coture duds, but the ugly shows through. This is truly the face of someone who makes her living promoting emaciated teenagers as the epitome of female beauty.

A higher double-standard.

People are mistaken when they assume that models promote an ideal beauty. Young, thin, and often non-descript girls are chosen as models so the clothing stands out. One of the ironies of fashion modeling is that you don't put "beautiful" girls in the clothes; the clothes must be the star. And what better way than to put them on a human hanger.

designers tired of beautiful models outshining the clothes...and paying them huge fees for their services. They started getting ugly skinny models who you don't really want to look at in the face, so you look at the clothes.

the only industry this does not work is the swimsuit/lingerie industry. There they promote a model who you want to emulate to attract a man. And men are attracted to sex, which means very little clothes, and with very little clothes comes a primal sense that attracts men to fertile looking women. The regular fashion industry is woman dressing for woman so the model in the clothes is meant to be a hanger. Woman are competitive to be thinner when they see these models because there is no urge for them to be voluptuous when looking at "sexualized" models. When a woman with small breasts sees a victoria secret model, she might want bigger boobs, if she sees kate moss she will feel better about herself, not because she feels she can attract a mate, but because she feels she needs to belong.

The irony is that the models who make the most are lingerie/victoria secret models, those who are classically beautiful with a much healthier looking body (in comparison to the rest of the industry). But very few woman actually are classically beautiful so they feel the need to fit into the skinny model formula. Better to one than neither and envied by someone then nobody.
