Washington Post:

President Obama’s promised jobs plan needs to be unrealistic and unreasonable, at the very least. If he can crank it all the way up to unimaginable, that would be even better.

Job plans? Amnesty for illegal aliens? This is a vast change in his policy of the nation of laws.
Is this all to get votes? We now have more illegal aliens looming in the shadows, to steal jobs than trying to create them.
One man I knew told me he fell out of an apple tree, some lawyer told him to tell social security that he heard voices. He was not a citizen collecting $800 a month, food stamps, free health care, housing subsidies, they had some doctor back them up. but, he was applying for citizenship. I was appaulled when he said his two brothers doing the same, one had suddenly neck injuries and other back injury. They all live 6 months here and 6 months in Mexico. I remember the 60 minutes show that showed hundreds of acres of mail box trailers in Texas, all aliens getting social security checks. They had no way of knowing if they were legal or illegal. Who approves of this? No wonder Americans are going broke, first they steal jobs, then, we pay them checks? Many farmers here, will not hire Americans, because they can work the aliens to death, pay them cash, get subsidies for hiring them, and,do not have to pay overtime, do not have to pay sick days, under pay them, while they collect welfare checks, food stamps, free schooling even in the summer, free health and dental care. Not to mention the taking advantage of sexual gratuities.

Repugnant are going to slash n burn anything he proposes. so he should go real real real big...we need 9 million jobs or more to be created.......got for 18 million knowing they will seek to slash it to death...well if you for fro 18 million and they slash it in half..That is a double whammy to the GOP...and still a win for Obama and America....
GOP votes against creating plentiful jobs and slashes our hope n dreams in half on ideology alone...and if we can get funding and projects that can create 9 million jobs even after tea party slash n burn....come on.....we can get out of what is looking like a Decade of despair for 80% of Americans....we've seen their play book, we know their plays.....why can't we out strategize them.....keep the message simple big jobs plenty of jobs....and the GOP want half of that or less..Even those slow on the up take can see that contrast

Since the one thing that is certain is that whatever Obama will be proposing won't get passed simply because it is his proposal the only real function of the proposal will be to provide fodder for the presidential campaign.  So the goal is to not make a proposal that will reinforce the Right's message about Obama to independents while making a proposal that the Republicans will look like jackasses for obstructing.

Obama's best tactic this election is to do what Truman did and run against the "Do-Nothing Republican Congress".  Might as well make the failure to pass a jobs bill be one of the nails in that coffin.

I disagree.  The first thing that we need to understand is that whatever Obama comes up with, no matter how good or cheap or effective the Republicans are going to denounce it and never pass it.  Because the last thing the Republicans want right now is to help the economy get better.  The primary thing that any of their candidates right now is running on is 'Obama wrecked the economy'.  They believe that the only thing standing between themselves and getting in the White House is the possibility that the economy might get better.

If they can't think of anything else they will just bring out their old scripts about 'big government' and 'more of the same' or 'the deficit' whatever.

So what Obama needs to roll out is a plan that will make the Republicans look like obstructionist idiots for not passing.  And then dare them not to.  Here is my proposal:

For every net additional full-time job created and kept in the United States (from the baseline of 1/1/11) in the next two years a corporation may repatriate one million dollars in offshore profits at half the tax rate,  The net additional taxes will be spent half to reduce the deficit and half on block grants to the states for building education and transportation infrastructure.

The plan is a Republican wet dream.  A corporate tax break and deficit reducer with added home district pork flavored whipped cream on top.  Dare the Republicans not to pass it.  But they can't vote for any Obama economic proposal, much less one they believe might work!

But he is running the risk each passing day of having everyone living homeless "down by the river" with no means or gas to get to the voting booth. He should be worried.

Not everyone...3 people in my neighborhood have started remodeling projects in just the past month. Keeping people working.

Even if it was the BEST PLAN ON THIS PLANET...... the GOP will oppose ANY progress for this country. After all, they might lose control of their slaves if there are other jobs out there for them.

There's one thing Obama's plan WILL BE-- laughable.

Obama will propose more free trade, more work visas, more offshoring, and amnesty for illegals. Basically everything to hurt American workers.

sounds liek the republican plan that they dont tell you about
11:46 PM on 08/30/2011
It won't be. His plan will be well reasoned and appropriately bipartisan. The plan will also be - DOA - because the people Obama is dealing with are not reasonable and they certainly are not bipartisan. His plan will get 24 hours of air time and then will come the "pivot" back to foreign policy - we have a dictator to run down in Lybia and another to topple in Syria. Six months from now there will be another pivot toward jobs followed closely by a hasty pivot toward foreign policy. Repeat as needed.

No the reason Reagan won in a landslide is because he ran against Walter Mundane. The greatest democratic gift he ever received.

The so-called "bold" plans have been proposed by President Obama all along, and will be again when Congress reconvenes. The "shovel ready," infrastructure jobs which may start with construction and repairs of dilapidated, worn out structures, ripple out to a myriad of jobs that are behind desks, behind the wheel of trucks, trains, planes, and create stimulus and buying power. The alternative energy jobs and research and development is constantly mocked by the GOP, yet, those very people lament that China, Germany, and other nations are far ahead of us when it comes to not only becoming a less dependent on foreign oil, but their innovations are putting them way ahead of us. Those who sell it short are disingenuous, and, worse, delaying our recovery by years.

We are still the richest nation in the world, but to hear the GOP talk, we can't afford to do anything but cower in a corner and let the world pass us by. We must move ahead and stop this stagnant, fearful attitude. We must forge ahead, or we will definitely be left behind.

Congress' only focus is to bring this president down, it is time they started doing their job, and start giving their commander in chief the support he needs from them to get this country moving.

For those that still don't have a clue that a president can't write a bill and pass legislation, this might help.

so now he should be unreasonable as well as incompetent? Weak Knee'd? Wishy Washy? Visionless?

I think America has had enough of Mr. Obama...we tried him out for a few years, it didn't work out.

Comparing him in any way to FDR is laughable... FDR knew what he was doing, he had experience and a real vision that matched his talk..

Sorry, Bernie favors a lot more Big Government than I could stand...read what he says carefully...Bill CLinton I liked, Bernie ...no way...

And, just the facts that seem to get in the way with people like you, FDR, his first term in office had a majority in the House and Senate. He was able to propose, they wrote the bills, and he was able to sign it into law. The situation is very different now.

I'll say it again and again until it is understood. Obama can't write his own bill, it has to come from Congress. Where are the jobs, Boehner?

Clinton had a Republican House during the second half of his term and managed to get alot done as well...GW had a Dem House for his last couple years and got legislation passed...

With free trade, globalization, advancements in technology, the undergrad as the new standard, and the rising population you can bet that 9-10% unemployment is the new standard for America. People need to get use to it and look at the rest of the world. Most western countries that have a better unemployment rates have about 100 -250 million less people within their country. You can’t expect jobs to just appear out of thin air, they come with demand and without stimulating demand you won’t have any new jobs.

The American Way......is to encourage people to EXCEL. That does not mean that everyone will get a trophy. I assure you that is the rule of the day in China and India right now....and we will be left in the dirt if we continue to reward laziness.

I don't buy your 9-10% "acceptable" level of unemployment. That is a Socialist model.

With Capitalism we can cut that in half and give EVERYONE the chance to EXCEL.
