Captain Planet Played By Don Cheadle On Funny Or Die (VIDEO)

After saving Rwanda from genocide, America from racism and Tony Stark from hubris, Don Cheadle has set his sights on a loftier target: the world. In a new video from Funny Or Die, Cheadle plays '90s superhero Captain Planet, and valiantly attempts to bring pollution down to zero. But not in the way you might expect.

In the video, which also stars Brenda Song, Gillian Jacobs, Efren Ramirez, William Moseley and James Davis as the Planeteers, the eco-friendly cartoon from the 1990s is given a live-action treatment. The original cartoon, produced by Ted Turner as a way to teach kids about the environment, is being rebooted for the big screen by producer Don Murphy, but it appears that Funny Or Die beat them to the punch.

That said, we don't expect the feature film version of Captain Planet to be quite as twisted as Cheadle's interpretation, who apparently wants to save the environment by turning everything and everyone into a tree.

In other news, most GOP candidates deny the existence of Captain Planet.
