Holland America's Nieuw Amsterdam is a popular floating resort. The waters are crowded with sea-worthy vessels, so to make planning easier, we've done all the prep work for a cruise vacation. To The Mediterranean And The Caribbean

The Holland America Nieuw Amsterdam sails throughout the Mediterranean during the summer, visiting the coasts of Greece, Italy, Croatia and Spain. In the fall, the ship crosses the Atlantic and spends the winter cruising the Caribbean. The Nieuw Amsterdam visits Cozumel, Mexico, and the Bahamian ports of Half Moon Cay, Nassau and Freeport.

The Holland America Nieuw Amsterdam is a Signature-class cruise ship. It offers Holland America's signature service and luxuries.

Special Features

The Holland America Nieuw Amsterdam offers amenities for everyone. The Loft is a specialized teen lounge with computer and video editing equpment. The Culinary Arts Center offers cooking demonstrations, wine tastings and even classes on healthy eating for children and teens. The Greenhouse Spa and Salon offers a saltwater hydrotherapy pool, facials and couples massages.


The Holland America Nieuw Amsterdam boasts several different classes of interior, oceanview cabins and suites. Spa staterooms offer yoga mats, water features and are conveniently located near the Greenhouse Spa. All rooms include luxury linens, Egyptian cotton towels and the most up-to-date TV and video equipment. Suites include added amenities such as personalized stationery and expedited excursions.


The Holland America Nieuw Amsterdam offers such a wide variety of cruises that there is something to fit every budget. A seven-day cruise in the Caribbean can cost as little as $599 per person for an inside stateroom and $1,799 for a suite. A 24-day cruise in the Mediterranean can cost as much as $3,399 per person for an inside stateroom and $9,999 per person for a suite.


Holland America Nieuw Amsterdam passengers recommended the stingray snorkeling excursion on Grand Cayman Island. Their guide took them to areas where they were able to see many stingrays and other marine life. Other passengers appreciated the wealth of information that Holland America provided before embarking on the cruise.

Dining Options

New Amsterdam was the first name for New York City, so the main dining room is naturally called Manhattan. For a premium dining experience, try Pinnacle for steaks and pasta or Tamarind for fine Asian cuisine. The Lido restaurant offers more casual dining. The Holland America Nieuw Amsterdam also offers 24-hour room service.

Maiden Voyage

The Holland America Nieuw Amsterdam was launched July 4, 2010. This is the fourth ship to bear the name Nieuw Amsterdam. The silhouette of the Nieuw Amsterdam II still graces the Holland America logo.

In The News

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Holland America Nieuw Amsterdam suffered an outbreak of novovirus in 2010. More than 130 passengers became ill.
