Willie Nelson's Coldplay Cover For Chipotle (VIDEO)

Looks like we can now feel even better about ourselves for eating Chipotle more than once a week. Thanks, Willie Nelson!

The Chipotle Cultivate Foundation, a non-profit established by the burrito barons (that's what I call Chipotle, OK?), commits itself to creating a more sustainable and healthier food supply and raising awareness about food issues the world over. In the past few years, they've raised thousands of dollars for farming organizations and culinary institutions.

And now they've gone and enlisted Willie Nelson to cover Coldplay's "The Scientist" for an adorable stop-motion animation video called "Back to the Start," which follows a pink farmer who decides to go big business, before reverting back to his organic farming ways.

We imagine the phone conversation between Nelson and Chipotle below:

CHIPOTLE: Hey, is this Willie Nelson?

WILLIE: Yes, it is.

CHIPOTLE: Hi, this is Chipotle.

WILLIE: Oh, hey. How are ya?

CHIPOTLE: Good, thanks. We're wondering if you'd want to do a song for a video we're making about organic farming.

WILLIE: Sure, I could write something for that. Can you give me a couple days to --

CHIPOTLE: (interrupting) Why don't you just cover "The Scientist" by Coldplay?

WILLIE: By who?

CHIPOTLE: Coldplay.

WILLIE: That seems weird.

CHIPOTLE: We assure you, it's not.

WILLIE: (Long pause) Can I have free burritos for life?

CHIPOTLE: Hold on. (Long pause) Free burrito bowls. For thirty years.

WILLIE: Sold.

Mashable reports that Chipotle plans to air the video at movie theaters, and you can buy the song on iTunes, with $0.60 of each download going to the Foundation.

Nelson, who turned 78 last April, has a long history of supporting farmers and sustainable agriculture. As the president of Farm Aid, he's organized a major concert and countless events every year. This year's Farm Aid concert took place August 13 in Kansas City.

As Paul Harvey says.... and now for the rest of the story. What about everything farmers and ranchers do to improve their environment, and their work to remain sustainable for generations of family farmers to come? What about the long hours spent providing care for their livestock? This CG image of a "factory farm" obviously has an agenda, but really does not tell the story of modern day food production or the work that goes into getting food from pasture to plate.

Judging from the comments from right wingers here, I think it's safe to assume that they've proven once and for all that they hate American farmers.

And just where is the farmer/rancher supposed to get all this free range land? The neighbors want their bacon but they sure as heck do not want pigs roaming around their neighbor's property, or cows mooing and making noise or roosters crowing and waking them up. People like the little animated animals...not the real ones.

Hey, come on now Willie, we know that now that "smoke" is getting more expensive, by the day, now that its going "main street medical",still you should have a little pride in what your putting out there! This is all to strange, this "sell out'!!

Sell out? You have embarrassingly bad taste. Willie's delivery of "The Scientist" coupled with the video was superb. They provide an essential message for millions of sad people wondering through life, ignorant of where their food comes from. If you prefer life perverted by science, then "Want more hormones with that?" is a phrase you should memorize. As an aside, learn to spell ("to" should have been "too") and organize your thoughts better ("we know that now that..." proceed with run on sentences). This is called an "ad hominem" attack, but it is also a message you need to hear, judging from your post.

Love Chipotle great food and fair prices. Wish there was one in my city but alas, not. Whenever I drive to "big city" Chipotle is a lunch stop.

This has got to be one of the most bizarre videos and songs I've ever seen and heard. Every time I see a Chipotle Restaurant, I'm going to think I'm stuck in a Leetle People toy game listening to Willie Nelson.

AOL this is 'move' by Chipotle is much less bizarre and much more smart.

I hope that this video receives all of the awards it deserves. I live in "The Garden State", NJ and it's become anything but. People move in close proximity to a farm and complain about the organic process. When you eat actual, fresh cuts of meat there is no comparison to the packaged, processed product that you are served so many places. You have no idea how old produce is when you purchase it at a grocery store. Going to a farm market now there is a label on every individual piece of produce you purchase. The government over regulates the farmer. Purchase locally and patronize small business. If you eat meat go to a butcher. For produce go to a farmer. It's really that easy. So many towns now have farmer's markets. Skip the ones that pretend to be run by certain "religious" groups. Steamer tables of canned mac n cheese and people wearing purple and black clothing. It's nothing less than theater to sell food. Know who raises your food and support them.

You do realize that those "fresh" cuts of meat, assuming that it's beef, are cut from beef that has been aged, sometime for months, in order for it to achieve its peek flavor?

They forgot to show predators eating the chickens, the cows pooping into streams, and the sows burrowing nests in the ground that fill with water and drown the baby pigs.
