Toddler Struck By Car, Killed On Southwest Side

A nearly 2-year-old boy died after he ran out into traffic and was struck by a car in Chicago's Marquette Park neighborhood early Wednesday evening.

NBC Chicago reports that Jeremiah Griffin was only two blocks away from his home at the time of the incident, which took place on the 3000 block of West Columbus Avenue.

The boy was rushed to the Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn after the crash and was pronounced dead less than an hour after he was run down.

After the crash, the driver reportedly stayed on the scene and cooperated with police, who are still investigating the incident, according to the Chicago Tribune. No one else was injured and an autopsy has been scheduled for Thursday.
