Venice Film Festival: The Best & Worst Of The Red Carpet (PHOTOS)

There are plenty of chic film festivals out there, but it's hard to compete with one that shuttles its stars in by boat.

The glamorous Venice Film Festival, which kicked off last week, has been quite the star-studded event. The high-profile actresses (Gwyneth! Salma! Keira!) have been joined by models (Natasha Poly), socials (Bianca Brandolini), singers (Patti Smith) and designers (Frida Giannini) on a variety of red carpets, photo calls and boat rides.

The fashion, however, has not scored perfect marks -- between some unflattering colors, too-high slits and frumpy pantsuits, there have been some misses scattered amongst the hits.

I was happy to watch the video of Pacino receiving his honour at the Venice Film Fest. What I don't understand is why he insists on appearing, as usual, as an unmade bed. His girlfriend looked gorgeous. What a mess.

What I liked is that each woman was distinctly different (in looks) from the other, and the age difference between the women made the photos more interesting.

I liked Keira's long gold dress and Kate Winslet in anything, but I think my style (the way I would dress IF I lived in Hollywood-land) is very similar to Evan Rachel Wood's sense of classic, sexy flair.

I was in Venice once at the time of the Film Festival, watching celebrities cross from the Lido by boat to St. Marks Square and enter the Doges Palace for the festival events. It is always a magical place, but all the lights and beautiful people and ceremonies simply added to the glamour. An unforgettable memory ...

Except for Gwyneth and Selma, what a bunch of banalities!

No class at all. I look at Kate Winslet's "transformation" and dream of Joan Blondell, Shelley Winters et al who were true to themselves. Keira K: a bargain knock-off of Angelina J. ...and so on.
