Carla Bruni To Shield Her Child From The Press, Paparazzi

It took Carla Bruni a while to admit she was with child. But now that she's confessed that the bump under those bathrobes and sheathes is, indeed, a bump de bèbè, Carla's ready to talk.

The First Lady of France sat down in the presidential palace to talk with French TV show Sept-A-Huit, saying that she planned on shielding her child from the press and paparazzi as much as possible.

The Guardian translated Carla as telling the reporter:

"I will never show a photograph of this child and will never expose it [to publicity] [...] My eldest son was exposed once and not in a public situation but in a private situation and it was a great error. I should never have taken my son to visit this magnificent site. I should have foreseen that there would be photographers there. I was careless."

People also translated segments of the interview, in which Bruni-Sarkozy admits that her position as First Lady has made her extra cautious. "[The] position as the wife of the head of state has made me even more defensive," she said. "I understand the media interest, and I don't see any inconvenience in it for myself or my husband, but when it concerns the children, it's impossible."

With cameras always in her and her family's face, Carla said, it makes it difficult to be the normal kind of parent she'd like to be.

So we guess that means we won't see Carla out shopping with her baby in tow, à la Victoria Beckham and Rachel Zoe. It's a shame, too -- Baby Sarkozy-Bruni is bound to be a very photogenic, well-dressed child.

She's reminding me of Michael Jackson. Just do what other (normal) famous people do and release a few family photos a year to the public. Give no permission whatsoever to the paparazzi and stop protesting so much.

I find her statement ridiculous.  She should never have CHOSEN the public life she leads.  We all make choices.  While she can do a pretty good job of shielding her child, as did the Clintons with their daughter, the public does occasionally like to take a peek and see the kids.  I loved Princess Di, but like the Obamas she was more than happy to pose for the media with the kids when it suited her.  I think we have extremes here.  As I said, the Clintons did an excellent job of shielding, but not fanatical.

Did you watch the interview? Nothing ridiculous about her thoughtful responses to his questions on a variety of topics.

I don't think she can state categorically that the child will never be photographed, unless she, herself, goes into private life. She may say she will not publicize the child, willingly, or put her in the public glare, as she has with the other two younger children, but "never"?

Her son has only been photographed once in public and she has been in public life for all her public life. It can be done.

I understand her concern. Remember what happened to Princess Di? The European press are worse than American, and they follow celebs everyplace just to get pics. If I were she, I'd do the same.

Now that's just waving a red flag in front of the paparazzi bulls.

They can take pictures so much they want... they are not allowed to publish them.

She's a very famous model, singer and actress and wife to the President of France. Just because you don''t know who she is doesn't mean everyone else doesn't.

Trying to get rid of paparazzi following your children is a very reasonable decision...But, Good Luck with that Carla!

I recommend large, ferocious dogs and a pepper spray dispenser the size of a fire extinguisher.

You don't need this. There is a very strict law in France protecting children. Their pictures can only be published if the 2 parents give their permission.

gee wiz, what's her problem? Harder to hide a child, or keep him/her couped up in the house

Particularly, when you are the First Family of France. I think the better decision would be to control what is to be made public Bruini is no longer just a bed hopping celebrity. S

Well, whenever a celebrity tries to get a little privacy; go to the beach, go sailing, go hiking in the mountains, even go shopping, there's some scuzzy papparazzi there to snap an intrusive photo. The problem with this is....us. We read the posts, we read the articles, we gossip about them. Maybe we should just leave them alone. Of course - I'm writing this, which may mean my hypocrisy has no bounds...

She's not worried about the press or the Paparazzi. What she's really worried about are all those peasant French pEEpOle coming to close.

Classy move. I am thinking that she will not pimp out the baby like so many celebs are using their baby bump and babies like the hottest new accessories of the season. I am sure there will be a family portrait at some time or someone will capture the family at one event or another. But, she will do everything in her power to protect her childs privacy and freedoom to be a child outside of the gawking and often critical public eyes.

Exactly, as she does for her son Aurelien.
