Labor Day 2011: Our Favorite Comedies About Work (VIDEOS)

First Posted: 09/05/11 02:04 PM ET   Updated: 11/05/11 06:12 AM ET

How are we celebrating this Labor Day? By watching some of our favorite work-related comedies, of course. From vintage masterpieces starring Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine, Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn, to modern classics like "Office Space" and "Up In The Air," Hollywood has always had a knack for capturing the hysterical ennui of the daily grind. Here are a few of our top picks. Vote for your favorites and let us know which ones we missed in the comments.

Oh, and the "Clerks" clip is, obviously, NSFW... but hopefully your boss gave you the holiday off.

I know it's a little bit of a stretch, but Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle was sort of about work, and oh so funny!

The Apartment is a little more complicated than that. Some funny bits but a rather serious message ending with an attempted suicide.

If your office is somebody's Van Nuys living room, Orgazmo would make the list.

Working girl is one of my favorite movies. They just don't make those kinds of movies much anymore where you are left feeling great.

Even in its own era, "Desk Set" wasn't considered any great shakes of a film, even though it did star Tracy and Hepburn. "The Apartment" is a classic. Everything else on this list is destined for the bottom of a Netflix queue.

Didn't really know there was a separate genre of OFFICE comedies. But now that I know, I'd say Office Space is my favorite. Not just a funny movie, but best use of a soundtrack ever, as the above clip shows.

I love cats and dogs... but -

- 7 of the videos on the Comedy Section are of Animals.

Really?

Is it all about ratings and visitors - how about content?

Well, I wouldn't say I've been "missing" it...

If you're a sales guy and can relate to Glengarry Glen Ross, then you should also try Boiler Room.
