Scarlett Johansson Sings 'Bonnie & Clyde' Brigitte Bardot Part With Lulu Gainsbourg

First Posted: 09/05/11 02:16 PM ET Updated: 11/05/11 06:12 AM ET

Don't call Scarlett Johansson unambitious. Having already released an album filled with Tom Waits songs, she's now tackling a legendary song borne of two iconic stars of yesterday.

Johansson joins Lulu Gainsbourg, son of the late French singer/songwriter Serge Gainsbourg, in a sultry new rendition of the famed artist's 1968 hit, "Bonnie & Clyde." What's more, Johansson has to take on the vocal duties of the elder Gainsbourg's famous collaborator, actress and sex symbole, Brigitte Bardot.

The song is part of a tribute album Lulu is putting together in honor of his father, called, "From Gainsbourg To Lulu."

Listen to the Johansson version below, and below that, the original Bardot version. Does Johansson do it justice?

No, she doesn't do it justice. At all. She could have at least attempted to sing it in French. The lyrics aren't THAT difficult. Not wanting to sing simple song in French? That's not very ambitious....ScarJo, if you're going to be pretentious and cover a French classic at least try and sing it in the right language.

On the other hand, Lulu is fantastic. Bravo!

One longs for Jane Birkin and her collaboration on  "Je t'aime" or "Soixante-Neuf."

Neither song is fantastic, but the remake is worse.

I never thought Serge Gainsbourg chose to collaborate with BB so he could have access to her voice ;)

I can't imagine that any woman with a real voice would want to cover this song.

She is a horribly self conscious as a model and actress.... but she makes me want to pull one off too.

She's quite full of herself. A turn off. No sense of humor at all, either.

He is named after his father, Serge Gainsbourg, was born Lucien Ginsburg. Lulu is a nickname for Lucien.

Agreed. Neither is known for vocals. Sometimes sex appeal doesn't translate to a vocal element.
