Ron Paul Ties Rick Perry To Al Gore In 2012 Campaign Ad (VIDEO)

Ron Paul Rick Perry Democrat

Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul is going after rival contender Rick Perry with a new campaign ad highlighting the Texas governor's past support for former vice president and presidential candidate Al Gore.

"The establishment called him extreme and unelectable, they said he was the wrong man for the job. It's why a young Texan named Ron Paul was one of only four congressmen to endorse Ronald Reagan's campaign for president," says a narrator in the 60-second television spot. "After Reagan, Senator Al Gore ran for president, pledging to raise taxes and increase spending, pushing his liberal values. And Al Gore found a cheerleader in Texas named Rick Perry. Rick Perry helped lead Al Gore's campaign to undo the Reagan revolution, fighting to elect Al Gore president of the United States. Now, America must decide who to trust: Al Gore's Texas cheerleader or the one who stood with Reagan."

Perry served as Texas campaign chairman for Gore during the then-presidential candidate's 1988 run for the White House. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram recently noted that Perry began his political career as a rising Democratic star in the Lone Star State:

A raging liberal he was not. Elected to represent a slice of rural West Texas in the state House of Representatives in 1984, Perry, a young rancher and cotton farmer, gained an early reputation as a fiscal conservative. He was one of a few freshman "pit bulls," so named because they sat in the lower pit of the House Appropriations Committee, where they fought to keep spending low.

But Perry cast some votes and took a few stands that seem to be at odds with his current conservative stances.

According to the Star-Telegram, when it comes to the Perry-Gore connection, the Texas governor likes to say he eventually "came to [his] senses."

Below, video of Paul's new campaign ad.

Once you really dig into Perry's past, you'll see that associating him with Gore is a very slight attack. Below are two articles worth reading. The first has a quick list of some of Perry's problems. The second is a more in-depth exposition into his Gardasil mandate in Texas.

http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/perry-hits-back-paul-negative-ad-203233765.html

"I have gradually and steadily grown weary of the Republican Party's efforts to reduce the size of the federal government," Paul wrote in the letter. "Since then Ronald Reagan and the Republican Party have given us skyrocketing deficits, and astoundingly a doubled national debt. How is it that the party of balanced budgets, with control of the White House and Senate, accumulated red ink greater than all previous administrations put together?"

"There is no credibility left for the Republican Party as a force to reduce the size of government," he added. "That is the message of the Reagan years."
You can see Paul's response and the full letter after the jump...

In response, Paul's campaign pointed to Paul's policy proposals during that time and repeated the points in the ad that focused on Perry's past support for Al Gore's 1988 presidential campaign.

"Dr. Paul was going after Perry for being liberal in 1988. What's Rick Perry's attack for, being too conservative?" Paul spokesman Gary Howard told The Ticket. "The contrast here is plain: Dr. Paul wanted a stronger conservative revolution, Gov. Perry worked to end it."

Ricky's got some splainin' to do, which I think is why he wants to duck out on the Repubs debates. I do believe that Michelle and Ron will eat him alive if shows. Even tired old Mitt will get in a bite or two. The only way Perry can win is if he's the only one with a mike, and questioners all have teabags on their little three-cornered hats.

It almost seems like the more the lefts throws dirt at Perry, the better he starts to do. The New York times seem to have it right, you all better start taking Perry serious, because he is likley to be our next President.

How well Perry is doing has very little to do with whether the left approves of him or not. Right now he is running for the republican nomination and what liberals think about him has nothing to do with it.

TIm: : "you all better start taking Perry serious, because he is likley to be our next President."

Actually, Perry is likely to become the next Republican to lose to Obama.

After the Republican establishment steals the nomination from Ron Paul.

I am not sure what makes you think that. Ron Paul is a kooky old man who has yet to figure out that he will never be President.

As if Ron Paul has a chance. He's a joke. He's a "libertarian" who is "pro-life". There is NO greater example of "big government" than when they stick their big fat boot on your vagina and ORDER you to give birth by government decree.

goldwater kid: "Ron Paul will be heard and listened to for the next entire year. Both political parties hate it......"

Prove it.

A lof of Democrats love to hear Ron Paul and Bachmann making the Republicans look increasingly nutty.

Glad you mentioned Goldwater, because that will be the size of the Republican loss if the most primary votes goes to one of the Republican Wack Pack.

That's why the Republican establishment will steal a Ron Paul primary victory in favor of someone like Perry. You think they can't do it?

"Glad you mentioned Goldwater, because that will be the size of the Republican loss if the most primary votes goes to one of the Republican Wack Pack." - Glad you mentioned Goldwater's loss. In the words or Bill Maher "If Americans were smarter wouldn't they be voting for Ron Paul?" And certainly the Republican establishment will try to put Perry in front of Paul. He threatens them too much. And I'm glad morons like you who don't even understand where Paul comes from continue to taunt the man. Your ignorant mind is the reason this country is going down.

Perry attacks back in the Weekly Standard....

http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/paul-vs-perry-texas-battle-reagan-legacy_592724.html

But, all he does is show exactly why Dr. Paul is the most HONEST statesman in Washington for the past 30 years...

http://www.rickperry.org/content/uploads/2011/09/PaulLetter.jpg

The letter verbally expresses the feelings of frustration that the Tea Party and the greater masses of Republican voters are currently feeling about the Republican Party and its leadership.

- unprecedented deficits

- massive monetary inflation

- an irrational and unconstitutional foreign policy

- zooming foreign aid

- the exhalation of international banking

- and the attack on our personal liberties and privacy"

The letter properly chastises the Republican Party for implementing a big government “liberal” agenda and forsaking conservative principles. Publishing that resignation letter is free advertisement and establishes President Paul as a truly principled constitutional conservative.

In the interim, all eyes should remain on Perry. Hightower just gave a scathing commentary on the records of Perry and what he stands for. Unfortunately for Paul, he's too weak in the knees to stand.

Ron Paul is an authoritarian of a different stripe. In Ron Paul's paradise, the corporations have the powers of kings and all industries are run by a single company (a monopoly). That is what happens when there is an unregulated free market. Someone wins the first business cycle and then is able to dominate the market from then on. Ron Paul has been asked about this deficiency in his economic philosophy and he merely smiled slyly. His expression betrayed glee at the prospect of monopolies running everything.
