For "X Files" fans, the truth is out there.

This time, however, it's good news.

Gillian Anderson, who has spawned lustful cults as the red headed Dana Scully, confirms that there's a third "X Files" film in the works.

“I hope it will happen, there’s talk of it,” Anderson said after the world premier of "Johnny English Reborn."

Just like an episode of the Fox hit, the details are mysterious.

“I don’t know who’s writing it but I hear there’s something going on,” she said.

Though, the "X Files" were famous for taking their cases eerily serious, Anderson said she'd be interested in adding a little humor to the show.

“I’ve always wanted to do a spoof of the X Files as a film,” she said. “We talked about that for a long time but maybe after three features we could get to do a spoof feature.”

For Anderson, it's either this or go back to doing porn. Tough call, actually.

Don't remember much of the second movie... Got a little too blatto (movie theater has a bar), puked in the theater, pointed and laughed at Yoda's "sized matter's not" poster... and promptly passed out while my friend drove me home...

On the fond memories... which I don't have....

They really f#%ked up this franchise with greedy larceny and the horrible writing of part two. Now, who cares? Go back to the roots and include an over arching mythology like the one duchovney insisted on way back then -- and then you have something, otherwise, not so much.

X Files was best when they did stand alone episodes.

Once they switched to the grand conspiracy, I tuned out.

I agree, that the best episodes were the single story ones, but I still tuned in to the rest. That is, until Mulder left the show.

I would not be surprised if it is true. Nothing is easier to believe than that the film industry is working about another retread.

A large part of what made the show great was their inability to uncover the conspiracy. Once that was unraveled, there was a big 'meh' and it didn't quite matter anymore.

Another aspect of it were the characters: Alex Krycek, Cigarette Smoking Man, Skinner, etc. Seeing as most of the more interesting characters are dead, the luster is gone.

Unfortunately he's a meth dealer in Charming, CA these days (Sons of Anarchy). Guess government work isn't what it used to be anymore :-(

The movie should have been the end - it was a cliff hanger. And the 2nd one the actors had 'sick of this character' written all over their faces. Unless the actors are nostalgic for the role or have discovered some nuance they want to add to their characters, than this will be like the last one. I predict a straight to dvd cash grab steaming pile.

This is a tease. This is not a confirmation in my eyes. It's so vague. I want to believe it :> I won't, however, till the man himself (CC) confirms it. It's about friggin' time! XF3 in 2012!
