Ed Schultz Defends Jimmy Hoffa, Goes After Fox News (VIDEO)

Ed Schultz

First Posted: 09/07/11 10:25 AM ET Updated: 11/07/11 05:12 AM ET

Ed Schultz mounted a robust defense of union leader Jimmy Hoffa on his Tuesday show.

Hoffa has been under fire recently after he told a crowd in Detroit to "take out these son-of-a-bitches" in the Tea Party in the 2012 election. Conservatives saw the comments as a call to violence. Schultz did not see it that way.

"Now, this is just Ed talking: I think he's spot on!" he said. "...Hoffa fights fire with fire and this is what I think workers and middle classers in this country want."

Schultz then criticized Fox News for what he called a "fake outrage machine" over the comments. He said the network had selectively edited Hoffa's remarks to remove any reference to voting.

"Mr. Hoffa clearly wasn't calling for violence against the Tea Party," Schultz said. "...This is an ideological war going on in this country and liberals need to fight. Not with guns, not with knives...just do it with the ballot box."

Hoffa appeared on the show after Schultz' monologue. He refused to back down from his comments.

Both Hoffa and Schultz need to drop the vitriol and begin conducting themselves in a more civil manner.

"take them out", "don't retreat reload", oh come on.Everybody uses violent rhetoric in politics to make a point because it gets people's attention, it gets news coverage, & it doesn't require creative thinking or the use of a thesaurus. reducing your position to a snappy sound bite is how public personality communicate with the public these days.

PsychoSchultz must be a fan of that "new civility" which includes threats of violence from the very Democrats who were advocating for peace, civility, political discourse, and nonviolence shortly after the tragedy in Tucson.

Why is when A left leaning guy likes Ed Schultz tells it like it really is, he gets cut up by people that lean left as well as the right, Ed is by far the best newsman on TV. Are all the trolls in here right wing sympathisers, gettin' paid by FOX comedy network to run down people that speak the truth. Ed stands up for the workingclass in this country, so if you want lies and deceit watch FOX comedy.
11:16 AM on 09/09/2011
Liberal trolls, it was Democrats like you who were advocating civility and nonviolence.

Typically the teabaggers saw it as violence when it wasn't.

Does anyone even care that schultz did the same thing fox did only WORSE by editing and adding his own commentary to a clip that perry made like a week ago? (black cloud/obama/debt)

I dont like the editing by fox, but what schultz did was 10 times worse....I cannot believe he actually called them out, i guess when nobody is really watching on a national stage who cares...

How is it that when the other side does the same thing it is 10 times worse? So when O'Reily or Limbaugh do it its just a little bad. But when Ed does it its 10 times worse? How transparent.
04:54 PM on 09/08/2011
When Ed does anything it's 10x worse.

WAIT a minute! Aren't you doing what you're also accusing Hoffa of having done? Any who are alert at all, notice that Republicans seem to believe they have a right to trash & burn whomever they wish, but they're the first to call out others. We're sick of these double standards Republicans and thier Tea Non-Party hucksters who are bringing this way out of proportion meanness to politics. Lets have civil conversation or argument and an end to Mitch McConnell kind of destruction through blocking everything this administration is trying to do, and including Republicans blocking all jobs bill brought to the floor this year. Republicans, by thei behavior, are NOT wanting jobs for the unemployed. They want to go back to slave, sweat shop kind of jobs, and that is the reason they block all jobs bills. Everyone, tell Republicans and Tea Partiers to STOP THEIR BLOCKING LEGISLATION AND JOBS RIGHT NOW.

If ever there was a role model for slobs, Ed Schultz is it, right behind Elmer Fud aka Rush Limbaugh. These are of course not nice things to say but for an industry filled with lying, double talking disinformation Talking Head, Ed holds a special place of loathing in my book because he is more than slanderously disrespectful of his betters. However, the Puppet Masters pulling the strings do a pretty good job of finding someone for everyone, even if it's about 4% of our population in this case. Did I say I dislike the guy?
12:11 PM on 09/08/2011
Disrespectful of his betters? (Betters = Fox News?)

I can't believe you said that.

It's funny how when a liberal stand up against the radical GOP party or Tea Baggers they get
very offensive. It's okay for the Tea Baggers to disrespect President Obama, the government &
the working poor but when someone calls them out for their rhetoric they start to cry foul. What
Jimmy Hoffa stated is too make voters around the country to be aware who's bullshitting & who's
trying to make a difference for americans. The Tea Baggers are nothing more but radical
constituents with racial & anti-government hatred. They want americans to believe they have
our best interest at heart but when americans do their homework they can see behind the
Tea Baggers bullshit. The good ole boys network who want to control everything to prevent
color people, working poor people & middle class people to be on the endanger species list.

Not just the Tea Baggers, not just the Tea Baggers. Isn't it funny how to hear you the blacks and minorities love the Government; guess all those jobs with TSA, FEMA and Guarding the Federal Reserve went a long way. Please explain this strange and possibly racist comment.
03:16 PM on 09/08/2011
So let me get this right, you think only Blacks/Minorities work for the gov't and therefore like the gov't. Is that your position, because correct me if I'm wrong but I would bet just about thing that the majority of Senators/Representatives are Caucasian, earning pensions, having healthcare services, so don't try to pretend that they don't like the gov't,as they ARE the gov't. and as Frankthefitter says, your comment lets your racism show, so pull down your dress

Ed Shultz always results to name calling and demonizing, because hes not intelligent enough to hold a calm civil debate, Liberals are a bunch of hipocrites, sara palin says we should target districts and she gets in trouble, Hoffa calls intelligent hard working americans sob's and he gets an applause

No Repulican Presidential candidate or Tea Party supporter has called to abolish Unions or the right to organize. There is however a solid movement by the taxpayers in a number of states to force public/government union members to pay a portion of their benifits inorder to reduce the burden on non governmental taxpayers and balance state budgets. Hoffa is no working man. He is a highly paid Union boss who talks the tough talk but has never risk anything ever in his life.

Please!! Unions DIDN'T CAUSE the mess that states are in!
12:22 AM on 09/08/2011
Then why are Wisconsin School districts suddenly able to afford salaries for teachers with no layoffs? Because school districts no longer HAVE to buy Union healthcare insurance. They now can buy it on the open market and its much cheaper. This saved each district 100's of thousands. Other states are trying to do the same thing(ohio). The Unions know all that extra money they get goes in the democrats pockets and buys influence. So the UNIONS DID cause much of the mess the states are in. FDR was 100% against Unions for government workers because the Unions donate money to candidates who, when elected give the Union everything they want. Who cares about the taxpayer.
