Jennifer Garner Co-Developing New Comedy Sitcom Based On Book, 'The Geeks Shall Inherit The Earth'

Jennifer Garner Tv Show

There was once a time when things like J.R.R. Tolkien novels, Dungeons & Dragons and thick-rimmed glasses were not cool. Yet, somehow, over time being a geek, or even a nerd, became cool. Suddenly, every beautiful babe in Hollywood claims she was a geek in high school, and shows like "Glee" make being an outsider look like fun. And with smart guys like Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerburg and Bill Gates ruling the world as we know it, it certainly seems that, yes, the geeks shall inherit the earth.

And it looks like yet another television show is hoping to get down with the dorks.

Jennifer Garner's Vandalia Films is developing a half-hour comedy at ABC Studios based on the book "The Geeks Shall Inherit the Earth," reports Variety.

The book, by writer Alexandra Robbins, follows seven different students with distinct quirks and how those personalities will prove valuable in adulthood. See? It really does get better

Bert Royal, who wrote Emma Stones breakout comedy flick "Easy A," will reportedly pen the pilot episode. Donna Roth and Susan Arnold are set to produce the show.

Ans while there's no mention of Garner returning to the small screen any time soon, it's nice to at least have her behind-the-scenes. And let's face it, J.J. Abrams' "Alias" was a total geek magnet.

I remember a show called "Dweebs" a while back trying out the hot chick-in-the-midst-of-geeks theme. And doesn't the current "Big Bang Theory" and "Chuck" sort of play into this?

Lots of shows do that. It's mainly because having a bunch of characters that are the same is not as interesting as having differences. From the sounds of it, though, she won't be in it. I'd be interested in who they do actually cast. Probably some "geeks" who look like models.

Jennifer Garner - proof that that mousy little chick who everyone relegated to the chess club or library grew up to be the stuff of many a male fantasy. Yay Jen!

A comedy sitcom? These headlines are outsourced, aren't they?
12:14 PM on 09/14/2011
That sums up the American mentality right there. Situational Comedy is too long. Better shorten it. Sitcom is too short and no one remembers what it means, better add to it.

I have heard really great things about her upcoming film Butter with the guy from Modern Family. I really like Jen and her acting, can't wait to see her do more of it. She can do both drama and comedy.

Now here's a nice lady with a great family. Let's see what the media does to screw this up.
02:24 PM on 09/09/2011
It's hard not to like her. She seems like one of the few down to earth actresses there is. She was supposedly a bit of band geek in school so I'm sure this concept is close to the heart. I hope it does well. She deserves it!

Those earrings really are terrible, but she is absolutely gorgeous.

That's not the most flattering photo of her. It looks like she's waiting for a laxative dose to kick in.

A lot of celebrities are bearing and raising children. It's not unusual.

Right. All the cool kids are playing D&D.

Geek chic may be in, but being a geek isn't. Nor will it ever be.

Oh yeah, a jock would refer to Dungeons and Dragons as D&D. I challenge you to a fistfight, sir. I'll lose horribly and prove I'm not a jock in any way, shape or form. I'd also like to ask why I'm clueless? Being a true geek means you're on the periphery of society, in terms of interests...

Welcome change from trashy reality TV.

If it ends up in the hands of ABC Family, it will be trashy sitcom TV.
