Hand weights and dumbbells are the same thing, unless you're making the distinction of the weights that slide onto hands, which isn't indicated by the photo.

They forgot one of my favorite gym activities:

Making fun of people who either:

1) Use poor form with weight that they know is WAY too much for them to handle to try to get attention
2) Strut around like peacocks trying to get people to notice them with their Ed Hardy shirts and orange Snooki tans
3) Having a really loud phone conversation in the middle of the gym so everyone can hear how important they think their lives are.

Don't forget about the meatheads, and wannabe meatheads that spend more time in front of the mirror, than they spend working out.

I've run myself into nirvana whilst listening to "I Feel Love" by Donna Summer on more than one occasion. Music is essential!

I do a combination of these activities...3 times a week, I do total body conditioning, which is a mix of hand weights, body bar, steps, and aerobics...and the other 2 days, I do an hour of zumba, which is a fun way to get your cardio in...dancing non stop to Michael Jackson, Beyonce, Celia Cruz, etc.

I bet "calisthenics" is even more popular than "calesthenics."

I've never understood the guys who focus obsessively - and I do mean 100% - on their upper body. They're so proud of their huge muscles and tremendous strength above the waist, but they have legs like twigs. It has to be some sort of mental block.

People who only focus on vanity muscles are some of the most misinformed in regards to weight training and overall fitness. Women who only work their legs and men who only work their arms are funny looking people...

A combo of all of these is the best way to go. That way you don't get bored and your bod doesn't get used to doing the same thing over and over again.

I love the elliptical and the treadmill and use both at least 3 times per week. I use the recumbent bike about once a week.

But of those 60% who weights, 95% of them lift a fraction of a percentage of their body weight very very very slowly over and over and over again confusing muscle fatigue with a conditioning effect.
