Miley Cyrus Talks Fame, Sex And Growing Up In Prestige Magazine

Miley Cyrus

Like every teen sensation that found fame via The Disney Channel, Miley Cyrus is eager to grow up. If you've been keeping track of the 18-year-old at all, you know that she's often accused of growing up a little too quickly.

Whether it's suggestive photos in Vanity Fair, pole dancing on an ice cream cart or caught smoking salvia, Cyrus has had to battle for her right to stop being seen as the tween in a blond wig singing about her double life.

Cyrus graces the cover of Asia's Prestige Magazine looking more grown up than ever before. But she doesn't just look grown up, she's starting to sound like it too.

The singer and actress stars in "LOL: Laughing Out Loud" and "So Undercover," both soon to be released, teen-friendly comedies that won't alienate her younger fans -- something that's key since she's still held up as a role model for young girls.

"People have very mixed opinions on me," she told Prestige. "I'm a great model, or I'm completely inappropriate for anyone under 13 and I'm very controversial. I don't know how I became this."

Cyrus recounted a magazine article she once read that called her a "Good Girl Gone Bad," a label she doesn't think she's earned. "I was like, 'What the hell, man?' I stay in the house pretty much every day. I don't go out. I've had the same boyfriend for two years."

But it's the scandals like a video that went viral of the star smoking salvia out of a bong, that have cast her into that bad girl light.

Cyrus defended herself to Prestige saying, "I'm not some crazy lady who's gone off the deep end, because I definitely haven't.... Every 18-year-old explores sexuality and experiments and tries things. For me there's no reason to change that."

Cyrus shot to fame at the age of 13, and in the five years worth of TV shows, movies, world tours and tabloid magazine covers, she's learned a lot about fame, telling the magazine that she wishes she didn't feel like she was always being watched.

To the haters, you know how ridiculous you sound? The media scope Miley Cyrus as she has been in the spotlight BASICALLY her entire life, especially due to the fact of her Celebrity father. Selena Gomez has emerged in the last few years, who is almost a year older than Cyrus. Don't say Selena Gomez is a squeaky clean TEEN. She has been portrayed with just as many relationships as Cyrus, and have you not seen her Public Displays of Affection with a 16 YEAR OLD boyfriend? Isn't that more inappropriate than smoking a legal substance at a legal age? Hannah Montana is finished. The little kids have found interest in other shows now. They're not to be worried about. But people who compare Gomez to her have nothing to prove. Gomez looks sluttier in public than Cyrus if you haven't realised, and have you not seen her Sharpie/Tattoo of '

I'm offended by the statement "every 18-year-old explores sexuality & experiments & tries things. For me there's no reason to change that." As a teen in the late 70s, I didn't 'experiment' with any kind of drug/drink nor did I 'experiment' w/sex. (And by the way, neither has my daughter, at almost 19, nor did my son when he was in his teens!) And no, I wasn't a prude! I went dancing & to parties, but I made the CHOICE to drink water, soda, or tea. I CHOSE not to smoke, do drugs, or drink! I went out on dates, but I used restraint & CHOSE to use the word 'no!' I'm not saying I didn't 'make out' w/my dates occassionally, but if it was getting too hot & heavy, I knew when it was time to put a stop to it. There IS a reason to change her behavior. She's in the public eye, too many young girls idolize her, whether they should or not, & she has a responsibility to her young fans. Too many celebrities take this devil-may-care attitude, &, sadly, far too many people look to them for guidance. They have the option to make good choices, just like the rest of us. More often than not, they make poor choices because of their accessibility to money & fame. And more often than not, they live (or die!) to regret it (i.e., Kurt Cobain, Michael Jackson, Anna Nichole Smith, Marilyn Monroe, etc.).

How can you be sure that your Daughter and Son haven't. Maybe they just don't tell you because you would come down on them and they don't want the aggravation of dealing with you.

are you saying that miley cyrus is a slut.... well, guess what.... miley IS NOT a slut, she is a very beautiful, gorgeous, and pretty girl and if you insult miley, you just messed with the wrong bull..... ME..... if you insult miley, you insult me....

She's 18, so she can do whatever the hell she wants. Except drink.

Nope, she can do that in Europe and Canada :D

Calm the crap down everyone... Miliey's behavior is definitely within the normal range of behavior for young women her age. Yeah, table dancing is silly but ultimately harmless to anything but her reputation. And salvia? It's LEGAL IN CALIFORNIA! As far as I'm concerned, she did nothing wrong. I finally got around to trying it, definitely an interesting experience (once was enough) and the high is very brief.

As far as things to worry about in Miley's life, I'd be more concerned if a person her age wasn't trying new experiences (it doesnt have to be salvia! lol) and trying to find themselves now that they are developing more independence.
But really we should worry more about her falling into alcohol, cocaine or other substance abuse if other young female stars are any indicator.

I dunno, I discovered sex when I was 11. Yeah, my parents didn't know what to do with me and it was a horrible experience for everyone.. and... umm....... anyway..... Miley at 18 isn't a child, heck she's got the law behind her on this. So everyone just stop worrying and move on to the next young girl that the media is pretending they are trying to protect. Too much drama for nothing.

I think she tries too hard to be honest. Look at Selena Gomez, shes started off in Disney and people see her and look at her as an adult because she does not us a scandal as a rite of passage into adulthood. I do not know about the many of you out there but it is confusing to see immature behavior as adult. For instance, smoking salvia to say youre becoming an adult--no, thats immature and not responsible and adult-like. Also, I do not know many adults who dance on a pole or any that would agree thats mature for that matter. Sorry Miley, but at this rate you will alway remind me of Hanna Montana.

A lot of haters on this thread. I have three boys in college so I've been through the "18s" three times. She seems like a pretty typical kid to me. There aren't many 18 yr. olds who could be such that a Jerry Falwell would hold them up as an example of a "good person". (But then Jerry was a hateful, homophobic idiot). I diverge.

She will learn someday that life isn't all fun and games, I don't care how much money she has.

Yeah, but a billion dollars can take some of the "sting" out of the learning curve eh?

Any adult who tries to hold up an 18 year old celebrity as some kind of role model for other kids and project values and philosophies on said star has completly forgotten their teenage years or lost touch with reality.

No one should be anyone's role model. We are all humans and we mistakes and being a role model is never good because once you fail, all those people who made you a role model will be the first to trash you. Be your own role model is what I tell my children.
