Sarah Palin Reacts To Rick Perry's Harsh Remarks On Social Security (VIDEO)

Sarah Palin weighed in on harsh language Texas Governor Rick Perry used in defining his position on Social Security during Wednesday night's Republican presidential debate in California.

HuffPost's Sam Stein and Ryan Grim relay what Perry had to say about the entitlement program at the forum:

Perry declined the opportunity to back down from his book's claim that Social Security is a Ponzi scheme at the GOP primary debate Wednesday night, going so far as to criticize his former adviser and current agitator Karl Rove for calling his language provocative.

"Karl has been over the top for a long time in some of his remarks. So I am not responsible for Karl anymore," he said.

Earlier, Perry had re-affirmed his belief that Social Security was based on a "monstrous lie" and that absent reforms -- like giving control of the program to the states -- it would not be there for future generations.

Asked for her reaction to the remarks Palin said, "Well, there's no need to frighten or throw under the bus our esteemed elders who have paid all of their working lives into the Social Security system." She added, "What Rick Perry was trying to say, I believe, is that there needs to be reform. Status quo is not acceptable, because these programs are insolvent. ... So he's saying reform is necessary."
