Diane von Furstenberg Spring 2012: What Would Kate Middleton Wear? (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 09/11/2011 10:46 pm   Updated: 11/11/2011 4:12 am

The Duchess of Cambridge tends to favor British designers, catapulting brands like L.K. Bennett, Issa and Reiss to retail superstardom. But she surprised everyone during her Royal Tour to North America with Prince William when she stepped out in a vivid green dress by a high-profile American designer: Diane von Furstenberg.

She surprised everyone, that is, except perhaps von Furstenberg herself. The Belgium-born designer seems to have a good read on Kate Middleton's style, even correctly predicting the royal's choice for her wedding day dress. "I think she should go for Alexander McQueen," DVF told the Telegraph before the big day. Well done, Diane!

But for her trip to the US, Kate picked Diane, wearing the designer's "Maja Dress" in green when visiting the British Consul-General's residence in Los Angeles.

She took the dress out for a second spin for her cousin-in-law's wedding, attending the pre-wedding party for Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall on the Royal Britannia in the verdant sheath.

So when Diane von Furstenberg presented her Spring 2012 collection today, we kept a close eye on any royal-ready options. The collection had plenty of Kate-approved colors, but perhaps more adventurous shapes and prints.

Take a look below and tell us: what would Kate wear?

It's all about issues, mine and yours.

I don't think Kate would wear any of these. Possibly passable were slide #10 and #18, but after dissing the Duchess she probably will pass on the fashion designer.

It's nice, to be nice, to the nice

Lovely fabrics as always, but some of the silhouettes are simply unattractive, and I don't know what she was thinking with those models.

Since the 60's. Designers have gone down hill. I see all the famous spending money on the most hidious clothing. No class in any designer collection any more. This designer had gays in mind.

It's an ugly collection--back to the drawing board.

Who really cares what Kate would wear and her name should never have been mentioned. It's irrelevant to showing the collection, as UGLY as it is and H P your site is getting pathetic.

I went back and forth thinking these are dowdy or these look like what a four year old with a Barbie and a box of doll clothes from the 60's would come up with. How putting together such odd combinations of wildly patterned and colored fabrics could look so boring is beyond me. If they are not flattering on very thin, tall models imagine them on someone with even an average figure.

fantastic fabrics don't save the collection from looking K Mart dowdy.

Why is it that every time a designer puts together pieces that would look more correct coming out of a clown car at the circus, it is called "bold"?

A few pieces were nice. The flowy blk/wht dress...the white coat dress....everything on DVF's runway show is certainly not for everyone, but they're not hideous nor ugly. This is just a departure from her usual style. Gosh, you don't have to dress like a lawyer all of the time. Loosen up a bit...Spring and Summer are definitely the times of the year to do it.

Some of the ugliest clothes I've ever seen -- hideous prints, loose and sloppy proportions. DVF has laid a scrambled egg.

"What Would Kate Middleton Wear?"
Far more important, what would Charles Middleton wear? Ming the Merciless was a pretty snappy dresser, ya' know.
