Ricky Gervais Wants To Remotely Host The Golden Globes; Gervais Plans Fake Golden Globes Ceremony

Gervais

As he proved at last year's Golden Globes, for Ricky Gervais, no one is safe and nothing is sacred.

Though he received mind-blowing backlash, reportedly, Gervais was asked to host year's awards show. The comedian's response was unfazed and underwhelmed, "It's a second encore. Don't do a second encore. I don't think I should do it."

But in true Gervais-fashion, he's not finished.

He took to his blog - not to confirm or deny - but to muse about the prospect of hosting. Or kind of hosting.

What do you think of this? A live 3 hour podcast during The Golden Globes. Me and a few chums (like Louis CK, Chris Rock, Karl Pilkington, John Stewart, Larry David popping in and out) doing our own alternative commentary. People at home can have the telly on with the sound down listening to us online say things that no broadcaster could get away with. No one could do a f-cking thing.

After "opening pandora's box" (again?) Gervais wrote a follow-up post to clarify and tease fans a bit more.

Fun basically. Although, if I actually do it, it will show people how tame my official hosting was last year. I still can't quite understand how anyone would think I overstepped the mark, was cruel, or pushed any boundaries of taste and decency. It was a network friendly gentle ribbing of the industry. Nothing more. I didn't even dress as Hitler in the end. Anyway. I'm looking into it. Might not happen. I might not even be available. Who knows, I might be at The Golden Globes. (awkward silence.)

Quick Poll

Ricky Gervais should...

NOT host the Golden Globes! Come on!

YES! Imagine what he'll do next!

His idea of holding an online alternative GG show is brilliant, already there are sponsors and comedians showing interest. Would be way better than the actual show. I know who I'll be watching GG night. I love this idea.

I didn't understand the backlash - I enjoyed the GG's last year, except for the long spells when he wasn't on screen.

I thought he was funny. I worked in Hollywood for about nine years, behind the scenes and look, the things we say to each other or do in Hollywood Culture would never fly in most job markets, so thick skin is a must and frankly, regardless if I agree with him or not, he doesn't say things out of blind ignorant hate, he just laughs at our darkest hours, I laugh with my loved ones at ourselves in dark hours and its a great tool. Glad we have the freedom to do so in this great Country of ours.

RIcky is smug enough, and outrageous, but he isn't funny. That's the problem. It's not enough just to shock, you have to hit the old funny bone chum.

Ok, isn't funny to me. Ron White he is funny. Louis Black he is funny. Ricky, not so much.

Great idea. Make it so, Ricky.

It would take some super-tech-savvy people to simultaneously download and listen to a podcast that was being recorded in response to something airing live on TV. Methinks Gervais meant "webcast".

Now I feel like I'll be sooooo disappointed if this doesn't happen. Especially to have Karl there. Brilliant idea on Ricky's part, but that doesn't surprise me one bit. :)

i love his whole rant about humpty dumpty, like why do we assume it's an egg and how horses hooves are the best-imagined egg-crushing device,

This would be just about the only thing that would compell me to watch the GGs again. I say DO IT! (It would be very cool if they did it :) )

So this would be similar to say, a Comedy Central Roast of the Golden Globes? Definitely a good idea.

Ricky was the first and only good thing about the Golden Globes in its entirety.

Podcast please Mr. Gervais. Hell, I'd pay to hear it. You're brilliant!
