NEW YORK — The ceremony at the World Trade Center site is the centerpiece of New York City's remembrances on the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, but other events throughout the city are marking the day.

A sunrise ceremony in Battery Park was showcasing poetry and musical performances. At Tribute Park in Queens, a piece of World Trade Center steel is being unveiled.

Later in the day, volunteers at Bryant Park are to record what visitors say they want the world to remember about Sept. 11 as part of an artist project.

Other events include peace walks, choral performances and candlelight vigils.

those reflection pools are beautiful. i could not think of a better memorial to be put there. i can not wait to see the site when everything is completed. i'm sure i will spend most of the day there taking in everything there is to take in.

it seems the best we can do is leave a small legacy of questioning for future generations. the national security is too at risk to question now. the economy is in too much trouble now. national politics is too important now to make a stink of 9/11. still, i wonder why the pentagon buys books and burns them. maybe someday these questions will be answered.

Hey...It was a lovely ceremony....yes it is true that the memories are so strong and powerful, they don't even 10 year later. It is very difficult to believe that it is been 10 years....The accident which held on 9 September was very horrible....no one can forgot that day.....

Some memories are so powerful, they don’t diminish even 10 years later.

Wow..first time I see W with a very somber, sober, pained look on his face, almost remorseful.

The waterfalls are amazing.

It was a lovely ceremony today. Hard to believe it's been ten years. I did find the contrast between the emotions of the Bushes and Obamas quite striking. Frankly, I didn't see much from the Obamas. And what is with Michelle and that ridiculous 'thumbs up' she was giving to family members they greeted. Classless.

I think it's meant to mean a little bit more than it's visual representation. At least it's better than a tribute from the Hooter's girls http://bit.ly/rtUwrF

When I saw the two waterfalls unveiled I couldn't help but think of all the billions of tears shed for the victims of 9/11. I think it was a thoughtful, if not ingenious tribute to victims, families, riends, the nation.

I had read a newspaper article about names of some of the fallen from 9/11 having to be 'cut out' from the memorial piece because there wasn't enough room. Judging by the picture I can see of the plaque with the names spaced out, it looks like there would've been more than enough room for ALL of the names-and even if they had run out of room then, they should have made more space for a bigger memorial.

I heard an interview with the architect yesterday explaining how they spent a year arranging the names in a meaningful manner. I have a feeling that they are all there. It's a beautiful memorial and so thoughtful in its conception. Very moving indeed.

How beautiful, serene and dignified the memorial is! An appropriate recognition of the horrible loss ten years ago. I'm glad the relatives and friends of the dead have this place to go to.

God bless to the people who will always be scarred by what happened.
