This Week In Apple Rumors: Sprint iPhone 5, New iPod Touch, And More

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 09/11/11 06:12 PM ET   Updated: 11/11/11 05:12 AM ET

Every week the numerous blogs covering the machinations of the Apple empire float tons of unconfirmed rumors, futuristic speculation, and questionably-sourced reports on what the company might be unveiling in the near or distant future. Let's take a look back at what these Mac blogs were excited about this week, from September 4-10. Check out last week's Apple rumors here.

The iPhone 5 Will Have A 4-Inch Screen!

According to new renderings commissioned by the folks at MacRumors, the iPhone 5 will have a display screen that is 4 inches or a little bit larger, an upgrade from the 3.5-inch iPhone 4. These renderings are based on what is purportedly a leak of case design information for the new phone, published back in July at mobilefun.co.uk. If MacRumors' renderings are correct, the new iPhone would not only have a bigger display screen, it would also be a larger device compared to the iPhone 4 in general, in terms of height and width (though it would be much thinner). MacRumors also purchased what is apparently an iPhone 5 case, so click over to MacRumors for shots of the iPhone 4 inside of that purported iPhone 5 case, if that's your sort of thing.

And hey, while we're speculating about all things iPhone 5, why not talk about the device's release date, based on--no, not evidence from Apple--but rather the suspicious fact that...

yeah, imarketing machine has started moving. The hype will be huge, We might actually see
people lining up with a week before lunch.
Now, let's ignore the marketing and focus on numbers, I see Apple trying to keep up with Samsung and Htc and maybe coming up with something new.
However, if they are less that 1.5 ghz dual core CPu, 10Mb camera and +4.2" display, they will be easily passed on the next 3 months. Samsung and HTC got devices at 1.2ghz, and 8Mb camera with 1080p video now and 1.5ghz devices are already announced. And I see Nokia coming up with a very nice device as well.

I find it funny how everybody raves about these "i" products, but the one time I had one, it broke just by having it in my pocket... that was the end of my "i" experience... and I didn't think I'd need a warranty, especially for my pocket eating it :(

psst, they're brainwashed by incredible marketing. Don't tell them tho denial is the only thing they have left.

It would be great if the iPhone 5 works well as a phone. Anytime I'm speaking with someone on an iPhone it is hard for me to hear them.

I have the trouble, too, so I tend to use the earbuds and speakerphone a lot. Still I wouldn't go back to a regular cell phone.

Iphone is sheep, pure and simple. It's the power of marketing. Same reason why all the sheep buy Beats by Dr. Dre. They see that symbol and also "everyone else is doing it, so it must be the best". People aren't smart.

Another apple product mass produced in China. A fake apple store was spotted in China, complete with apple products.

Did apple think that assembling apple products in china would not lead to duplicating apple products? How much slave labor is sufficient for apple to make a profit?

What companies make there telephones here? Many patients are held by Korea and Japan so parts are made in those places sent to China for assembly. This sad but reallity

I got an iPhone a while ago, 3g (not even a 3gs) and I've vowed to never again get a apple product.

Not being happy with my original iPhone, I jailbroke it and filled it up with non-apple apps and other fun things apple won't allow on my (sorry, I mean their) device. My problem ever since, is that every time I run an update for my phone, iTunes (grrr iTunes) insists on wiping out everything non-apple, which is pretty much EVERYTHING. For this reason, I haven't updated my phone in, well, over a year. I know I can use convoluted methods like backup, update, reinstate backup, but I've always run into problems, some minor, but usually not worth the time it takes to backup and restore.

Regardless, my biggest pet peeve has always been, not being able to slide files directly onto and off of my iPhone. It drives me nuts when my buddy plugs his android phone into my PC and just slides songs from my PC onto his phone and vice versa, and it's great that he can drag and drop movies from his phone to my desktop, but it frustrates me that I can't do the same without FTP'ing to my iPhone (yes I changed the root password).

All in all, I just want to be in control of my device so I can use it the way I want to use it.

So go get yourself an Android. No one is forcing you to keep your iPhone. The 3G still has pretty good resale value. Wipe it and resell it. Unless you just need to complain, in which case ... whatever.

Good points, and I have most of the same complaints with my jailbroken/unlocked iPhone, but I agree with kmchambers' comment: at your earliest opportunity (when your contract expires?), get an Android phone. I'm tempted.

I have been an iOS user since day 1 for every device that Apple has offered. From the first iPod to the newest iPad, I have been using iOS devices for years. New screen sizes and new features are cool, but I am getting real tired of the same UI. There has not been a change to the UI since iOS was debuted 4 years ago. The biggest update was giving us the option to change the background to pictures in our Photo Roll. Pretty much the biggest reason why I am jumping ship to WP7 when my contract with AT&T is up in May 2012. I use a ton of MS related software and hardware and the integration of it into WP7 is getting harder and harder to pass up. Not to mention that with things like the rise of HTML5 App Stores are losing their luster.

Who knows its the Apple himself who's sending these rumors in the Market to keep its Patent under Limelight....Its just another way of Advertising and marketing, but in case if this is not the matter, then the consumer will reach for the right product as the Quality Speaks itself-------

I love the iPhone and have my third iphone right now (iphone 4) but if it gets any bigger I don't think it will be as handy. I have a job where I keep my phone in my pocket most days or its in my purse. If it gets any bigger I won't be able to do this. I want a phone, not an ipad on me at all times. I hope it won't get too much bigger.

Who the H-LL do you think you are, thinking you know what you want on in iPhone?

Don't worry, I'm sure when the iPhone 5 finally comes out there will be lots of choice in size, colors, and design ... lol.

Looks nice, and probably runs fine as well .. only problem is that there didn't seem to be a "phone" button on any of those shots ... the only thing close was what looked like a voice mail tile.
