Donkey Dumping On The Rise As Drought Hits Texas (VIDEO)

Spare a thought for an unlikely victim of the drought that is plaguing Texas this year - the donkey.

Donkey abandonment is on the rise in the Lone Star state, with cash-strapped owners abandoning the animals in droves.

Nonprofit Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue is currently housing 500 rescued donkeys in Texas, its highest total ever. This compares with about 100 reported cases of donkey abandonment nationally last year.

The organization says that the spate of donkey abandonments may be being spurred by their low market value.

As in many states, when an animal is taken to auction it must have a blood test performed to ensure that it is negative Coggins. This test costs between $15 and $25. Jacks and Geldings seldom fetch even $5 at most auctions thereby costing the owner more money to take the animal to auction than the animal is worth.

My San Antonio.com reports that Texas alone has brought 500 donkeys into Peaceful Valley's care since March, that's 100 more donkeys than the organization rescued nationally last year.

Nobody should be complaining about this because it's the agenda of all the animal rights organizations for all animals to roam free from humun contact.

HaHaHa...I didn't think they really meant literally a "donkey". I thought HP was again using their attention grabbing headlines...
I thought they were referring to a Democrat...LOL

But it is just horrible to dump a poor animal like that :(

Whenever there are natural disasters, or economic downturns, animals often take the brunt of the problems. When people lose their homes they are not always able to take family pets with them wherever they end up. Often they are sent to the pound and because they are sometimes older animals, they don't get adopted and mus be euthanized. Sadly, they are often abandoned when people move. Natural disasters often separate pets from their owners as well.

Domestic animals become less cost effective during times of drought (as this article points out) and are sometimes left abandoned. It would be wonderful if people in other states could adopt some of this critters. There is just something cool about donkies. There was one loose in my sisters neighborhood for awhile and I always loved seeing it just hanging around. If people will adopt wild mustangs, maybe someone can start a campaign to get these donkeys adopted. If you have the space & money to care for one, I think you should adopt one!!!

Well since Dubya and Rick Perry are two of the biggest asses anyone has ever seen even in Texas, I would think they would be the first to go.

The sad part...once they're done with public office we still can't seem to get rid of them. Is there a rescue group for out of work finished up politicians? They're like homing pideons coming back to roost in the only tree you park your car, spreading their crap everywhere!

I couldn't agree more, but don't shed any tears for them, they have been provided with a golden parachute that you an I wouldn't have the courage to dream about and remember they were initially "chosen" because the family had a lot of $ and influence to begin with, not becauce they were qualified for anything, with Dubya perhaps being the poster boy. Check out what R.Reagan said about this boob in his autobiography! To sum it all up they are best compared to what came out of the rear of of a donkey. Be careful not to step in it and holy lasagna don't get any on ya!

Donkey dunking is becoming universal around the country, coast to coast. On the other hand, elephants are gaining popularity as people are finally waking up to the fact that Socialism does not work. It is destroying this Once Great Country.

Yes, it is MUCH better to put all the money in the pockets of a handful. The billionaires don't have enough of OUR money yet. Let's keep giving them more. It's the FAT CATs that are destroying this country, or should I say "HAVE destroyed this country?"
