Why would he do this? What's his reasoning? What if she's not dead?

One neighborhood in North Nashville Tennessee started having meetings once a month concerning all the crime they've had in their area, which includes, home invasions, car theft, burglaries, elderly people being tied up and beat during robberies and of course, black teens fatally shooting each other. The meetings have become a result of getting to know who lives around them, meeting one another, watching for any suspicious vehicles, or young teens walking around, they report everything and unmarked police cars are right there to investigate all phone calls made! EVEN the elderly with nothing to do, are now out patrolling with their own cars, it's called getting involved and helping the police with all their tips! More and more neighborhoods in the great USA need to start doing this! Find out who's your neighbor, who's acting weird! Get a list of child molesters in your area, you can find out where they live, could be next door to you! They also have a www.smart911.com program going on! Check it out!

I feel bad for her dad. I'm glad for this big reason I have no kids.
I'm not sure if I could declare my daughter dead, but I'm sure it represents some kind of closure. Fact is, more likely she is. It's been a while. What a terrible thing to have to go through, not really knowing where my daughter is or never knowing if she became shark bate. So sad. I feel for her parents.

Too bad we are the ones who must watch for strangers and stick together no matter where we go. Many parts of this world especially here in the U.S. have done nothing but protect killers and help them get away with it. If we could only focus more on death penalty for killers and strap teen home invaders to a tree and stike them good with a wip, perhaps one day we could again sleep with our door unlocked and have a more happy place on earth, in our cities. More death penalty, bigger punishements!!!! I'm all for it! Write to your local and state congressman's to have tougher laws now! Give lazy ass lawmakers a real reason to make the laws!

seems like everytime someone teenager especially, gets killed whether car, boating, jet skiing, sky divving, seeing how much beer they can drink in 5 min's the parents begin some kind of crusade. Every time I see anything on this girl, and I hate it that anyone has to die like this, but in ALL the reports, in all the blah blah blah about her death, NOT ONCE have I ever heard anyone criticize her actions at 18 for being drunk and leaving with 3 guys she did not even know, heading to a location she had never been. Besides girls having no real common sense these days, that linked with no morals, what a recipe for disaster and they just do not seem to learn.

No one should take advantage of someone just because they are drunk or for any other reason.

But they do...thats why common sense and a healthy distrust of stangers is the first thing you teach kids in this world.Especially when the stangers are horney, drunk guys who have been w watching you lying on a bar getting jello shots slurped out of your navel{always a crowd pleaser}

I have to say, I thought her death was a stupid accident at first, horney guys thinking they got a good thing and they were going to take turns on the beach and then write to Penthouse about it, she choked on her own vomit and inadvertantly died...they panicked, and dumped her. But since the Other young woman was killed, Id say Joran has some explaining to do.

true BUT not the point. Little girl should have packed up some morals when she left for her vacation and she'd still be alive today. When I was trying to live a more Christian type life, something I seem to fail at these days, I was rebuiding a New Mexico ghost town. Occasionally I just got tired, bored, and lonely and would go down to the local saloon and shoot pool. In talking with a professing Christian, one of those that feels you can pretty much do whatever the world does as long as you simply ask forgiveness I told them, because there had been an incident recently at the bar, a shooting, and I told them, "you know it's one thing to get shot, injured, hurt in a bar where this kind of thing is pretty much to be expected, and I would be to blame for being there. Now if I was getting gas at the station next door and became injured because of a robbery or something, that's another story". I don't know if that makes any sense or not, I guess I'm just saying that it is sad this little girl had no more education in the ways of life, scruples, morals, whatever BUT you just DO NOT do belly shots and then leave with 3 men you do not know and head out to an undisclosed place and yet this just keeps happening with women in this day and age.

While I can't agree with you more about the importance of staying with your group/ not leaving a bar area with unknown people/ etc. I'm not sure of the legal drinking age in Aruba. So it might not have been illegal for her to be drunk... just used bad judgement while drunk. Regardless, sad to have this happen.

is it really possible to have good judgement while being drunk? But thanks for the response!

Maybe the father took out an insurance policy on the daughter that he never told his wife about. That would explain his desire to get her declared dead. So, the mother not knowing would explain his insistence and her not understanding.

Having followed this case over the last few years. I don't really see the need to have her declared dead. It kinda of seems wierd to me. But it does put her name in the publics eye again. Which hurts Aruba. And considering that the Aruban police and government officials helped coverup the case. It's all good. But if I was Beth. I would fight the move

We all know she's dead.

Maybe he did it and wants his half of the insurance money?
