Madonna Disses Berlusconi

Poor Madge. After scathing comments about the hydrangeas received from an adoring fan and subsequent unflattering media attention, the pop star has moved on to more serious subjects to diss -- like the Italian Prime Minister. Madonna, née Ciccone and herself of Italian descent, was in Venice promoting her second directorial effort, "W.E.," during the international film festival. In an interview with the Italian magazine Oggi, Madonna refers to an Economist article which ran with the headline "The man who screwed an entire country."

"What do I think of Berlusconi? I don't want to talk about that. But the English weekly The Economist has already said it all, right?"

Though some are calling for a ban on her film (which bowed out at Venice with lukewarm reviews), others, like parliamentary MP Gabriella Carlucci, are decidedly more flippant, who told The Telegraph: "It is obvious she has a communist press officer who told her what to say to get quoted in communist papers. It is obvious she knows nothing about Italy."
