Narciso Rodriguez Spring 2012: What Would FLOTUS Wear? (PHOTOS)

On her family's biggest night yet on the national stage, Michelle Obama chose a vivid red and black dress that got people talking -- about the dress and about the designer, Narciso Rodriguez.

Some people loved the bold sheath Obama chose for election night in 2008, which she paired with a black cardigan. Some people hated it. But that was fine by Rodriguez, who told The Huffington Post, "The response has been amazing - the blogs blew up and it was so controversial. For me, it was so exciting to see a woman take a chance and wear something out of the ordinary. It did bring my name to Middle America, but it wasn't just in the United States - it was a global recognition. People noticed - it was unapologetically black and red."

That it was. Since then, FLOTUS has gone on to wear Narciso Rodriguez's sleek designs on all sorts of important occasions, such as a Fourth of July celebration, a meeting with the British Prime Minister, various inaugural activities in 2009 and a memorable Presidential Address to Congress (where her signature arms first emerged).

Last night in New York, Narciso Rodriguez showed his latest collection for Spring 2012. There was much to love: an innovative color palette of earth tones mixed with cool aqua and white, clever layering and floaty asymmetrical hems that swirled as models walked.

But were the pieces fit for a First Lady? Will Michelle find dresses she loves? Check out the pictures below and let us know!

Respectable. I agree with Tracey Marie--sheers were probably the highlight of the collection.

Not much here that is particularly creative or new, but I did think the dress on slide 19 was lovely. HP, I wish you would show more of the clothes from the designers. I know it doesn't get the hits like "gotcha" Michelle threads, but it is wonderful to see.

4,8,11,24,27 are my absolute favorites as well as all the sheers. The one torquise dress would be wonderful for FLOTUS

There were a couple pieces that were all right. I like the soft blue dress. But many of the pieces looked undone or incomplete. Kind of like, "I don't know where this is going so lets just call it done". Overall I wasn't overly impressed but this collection is better than many I have seen lately.
