Chris Kelly Joins 'SNL': Funny Or Die And Onion News Network Writer Hired For Upcoming Season (VIDEO)

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 09/15/11 05:54 PM ET   Updated: 11/15/11 05:12 AM ET

It was announced today that Onion News Network veteran and current Funny Or Die writer Chris Kelly will be joining the staff at "Saturday Night Live" for their 37th season.

It's been a big year for Kelly professionally. The 28-year-old left his position as a writer/director at the Onion News Network this past spring to head out to LA and write for Funny or Die, and after a few short months he's heading back to New York to work on TV's longest-running sketch comedy show. And in a hurry, too. The new season of "SNL" premiers September 24, with host Alec Baldwin and musical guest Radiohead, and writing starts next week.

Kelly will be joining newcomer and former College Humor writer Sarah Schneider on the staff, which is awesome not only because the two are truly funny humans, but because they both kickstarted their comedy careers on the Internet.

To celebrate, we've rounded up some of our favorite Kelly-written sketches from over the years. Watch our picks below and vote for your favorite.

Talk about lame. This guy is not a funny writer...he is pathetic. And I am comparing him to what the popular media has crowned other great writers....which is really pathetic.

Wow, is seen these sketches, I'm glad he can add his skills on SNL. He is a very funny writer. The smoking sketch/burning building was my fav, but the "bus spillage" was good too.

Great news!
Hopefully with Chris Kelly SNL can return to be 'Saturday Night Live'
instead of 'Still Not Laughing'

Maybe my sense of humor is too sophisticated, but I find the Onion to be mostly lame.

Yep - I was a fan of the Onion years ago, but I'm just not impressed anymore. I was only able to watch about 3 minutes of their Onion tv show.

Chris Kelly is the best. For the record, he is also one of the nicest human beings to ever walk the planet.

Since they decided to stick with the lackluster cast from last year, maybe this will bring a beacon of hope that they will be funny again.

Every time I watch an Onion News clip I sit in awe that these actors make it thru them without laughing. I am sure editing helps, but man...such poise
