Serena Williams At Made In Polaroid Charity Auction: Hit Or Miss? (PHOTOS, POLL)

Serena Williams made headlines this week for an unflattering display of hot-headedness, in which she loudly harangued a chair umpire during her U.S. Open finals match... and was fined $2,000 for the "verbal abuse" incident.

But last night she had the opportunity to make a more flattering statement -- fashion-wise, that is. The 29-year-old tennis star celebrated the conclusion of the U.S. Open as well as New York Fashion Week at the Made In Polaroid Charity Auction, attended by big fashion names such as Patrick Demarchelier, Stefano Tonchi and Brad Goreski as well as Sting.

For the occasion Williams let her hair down (or, more accurately, out), showing off the hot pink streak in her curls. She donned a tight blue dress with zebra-stripe detail across the bodice and paired the body-con look with basic black pumps and silver bangles on both wrists.

Does the look work for the tennis pro or do Serena's choices prove unflattering once again?

any one else notice how much bigger & wider she is compared to those people immediately behing her ? take a 6ft- 8 350 lb middle linebacker & put him in a dress & a wig resembling an eagles nest & this is what it would look like

Serena is on ROIDS. She looks more like LeBron James. That's why she's always exploding in these outbursts. Hopefully, her ROID use will be exposed. USTA will do nothing, regardless.

I'm a big fan of Serena's, but I will be the first to admit that her fashion choices defy logic sometimes. Still, this one strikes the right chord for her, I think.

This is a young woman who has worked very hard at her sport, she has also worked at diversity so that when she no longer plays tennis she can do something else. I met both sisters when I lived in FL, they are like goddesses, they look so strong and vital. Serena is finding her style, and that is part of growing up and seeing what works. What worked for me in my 20's does not necessarily work for me in my 40's, but I still love fashion. I like this look for her.

I like that Serena is trying to discover her style. She's had a lot of misses and some amazing hits. Fashion is fun. Keep experimenting. You'll find your rhythm.
