Emma Thompson Writing New Peter Rabbit Book

NEW YORK -- Academy Award-winning actress Emma Thompson is writing a new "Peter Rabbit" story.

The book is to be published by Penguin in September 2012.

Penguin announced Thursday the book will be called "The Further Tale of Peter Rabbit." The book will be set in Scotland, where Peter Rabbit creator Beatrix Potter visited as a child.

Thompson has worked on other projects for young people, including "Nanny McPhee," her film adaptation of Christianna Brand's Nurse Matilda stories.

Thompson won an Oscar for her leading role in 1992's "Howards End." She won a second Oscar in 1996 for best adapted screenplay for "Sense and Sensibility."

I am sure she did not beg Penguin to write another Peter Rabbitt book. She is clever and dignified enough not to do it. She is so clever and I am sure she will do it ok.

What a shame. Peter Rabbit is the franchise of Beatrix Potter. It's too bad some people can't recognize that and leave it alone. Easy money is all they see. If they are not creative enough to come up with their own original characters, they should do something else with their lives.

I think leaving classics alone is a good idea. Her acting is so fine, that's enough for me.
