Sarah Palin Camp Denounces 'Lies' In Joe McGinniss Book, 'The Rogue'

By PHILIP ELLIOTT   09/15/11 10:26 PM ET   AP

WASHINGTON -- Sarah Palin's husband on Thursday called a book critical of his family "disgusting lies, innuendo and smears" as the former Alaska governor's camp sought to discredit a racy biography that includes allegations of infidelity and drug use.

As Sarah Palin weighs a White House bid, her husband released a statement seeking to blunt the fallout from Joe McGinniss' "The Rogue: Searching for the Real Sarah Palin." Palin allies also released another denial from the man alleged to have carried on an affair with Sarah Palin.

"This is a man who has been relentlessly stalking my family to the point of moving in right next door to us to harass us and spy on us to satisfy his creepy obsession with my wife," Todd Palin wrote of McGinniss. "His book is full of disgusting lies, innuendo and smears. Even The New York Times called this book `dated, petty,' and that it `chases caustic, unsubstantiated gossip.'"

The Republicans' 2008 vice presidential nominee and former governor of Alaska made no new reference on her Facebook account to McGinniss' book, although Sarah Palin previously mocked McGinniss for moving into a rented house next door to the Palin home.

"We're sure to have a doozey to look forward to with this treasure he's penning," Sarah Palin wrote last year. "Wonder what kind of material he'll gather while overlooking Piper's bedroom, my little garden and the family's swimming hole?"

McGinniss' book also repeats allegations first published in The National Enquirer that Sarah Palin carried on an affair with Brad Hanson, Todd Palin's former business partner.

In a statement released through Palin allies, Hanson again denied the allegation.

"This is the same old story that went around in 2008. It is a complete and outright lie," Hanson said. "Todd and Sarah Palin have been good friends for many years, and in fact we still own property together. We sold a former joint business venture for business reasons, nothing more. These attacks are shameful and those making them seem to be out only to destroy good people and make money doing so."

Appearing on NBC's "Today Show," McGinniss defended his reporting.

"I think I was as fair as I could possibly have been given the fact that she told all the people who were closest to her not to talk to me," he said.

David Axelrod, when he was asked by Barack Obama to serve as his campaign manager, told the future President that he is far too thin skinned to run for office let alone, serve as President.  He was told to toughen up and Obama certainly has, at least in his resistance to respond to every Teapublican provocation or slur.

I don't like Sarah Palin, I think that she is as Keith Olbermann says "an idiot," but I don't give a rat's behind about this book or what's in it. I don't need "dirt" on Sarah Palin real or imagined to disagree with her and her incessant nonsense.

Excellent post. She is doing a fine job on her own, making the case for being an idiot.

McGinnis' book is a gem! It's full of evidents, proofs of her public life as Mayor, Governor,... It's OK with you but some li*ars should be exposed for what they are when they are still active and pulls wool over people's eyes; otherwise the consequences are much more damaging. Imagine the SEC ignored the whistleblower's warnings since 2000 about Madoff and we ended up losing 65 billions instead of 2 billions 10 years later. Palin is a frau*dster through and through. It's amazing that some people are sitll believing in her despite the exposure. But it seems less people believe in her now. That's a good thing for this country.

It's funny how Todd Palin and "conservatives" are willing to quote that bastion of the liberal media, The New York Times, when it seems to support a point they want to make, but will bash it as such when it comes out with a story counter to their narrative.

It's just that the New York Times ever even hinting that it's lefty narrative doesn't match the facts is a momentous event. Usually it's so steeped in its own progressive agenda it has no time for common sense or reality.

The book isso well-researched and full of proofs and insiders' thoughts that NYT's criticism is laughable.

The media has been covering up for Sarah Palin for 3+ years.

Compare: The Rogue Chapter 19: http://tinyurl.com/3nv3za3

to Factcheckdotorg's article: http://tinyurl.com/325g3dx that they based on ONE photo.

Blueberry Tart is wasting his or her time. That's my conclusion. Also Joe MacGinness is seriously deluded if he thinks that his book contains anything of value. What an even bigger waste of time.

Sarah is quick to sue anyone who gets in her way. Why hasn't she sued Joe McGinnis if he lied in his book as she and Todd claims?

The more she rants about this the more interest there will be in the book .......... Sarah should know that the truth always comes out.

Sarah has at least two or three years to file her suit depending on limitations on tort actions in Alaska. I would think (you might not) that she'd have more important things to do for the next year than not let that skeevy old muckraker twist a little in the wind. Like for instance: ensuring the defeat of the Obama Nation and the broad election of GOP/Tea Party candidates to the U.S. Legislature. After that, look out, Joe. BTW, all you Palin-haters, did you notice that although she's not running she's gained more than 20 points on Obama in the last few weeks and is only five points behind him now? If the book were so true you'd think that wouldn't happen.

Wouldn't it be an ironic twist of fate if SP (or even Rice) had kept the outfit (stain included) she was wearing when they had sex? How Monica-esque that would be!

The worst thing about McGinnis' book is that it gives Sarah a chance to scream "They're out to get me!" a million times more as she drags out her perpetual victim card! I can't help but believe that at least some of the book is true, as so much of it has been said before by other people. The Palins call everyone "liars" when they speak of the Palin tribe but take zero responsibility for anything. There isn't a perfect family on the face of the earth but, please, acknowledge that and bear some of the onus for your mistakes. Stop pretending you're something you're not!

You'd be surprised: (a) there is far more diversity in the Tea Party than the Lame Stream has portrayed, (b) most Tea Party folks, as Christians, believe in grace and redemption (even if it WERE true that she'd done something so immature and leftist, (c) her "base" cares more about who she is now than who she was twenty or thirty years ago. In my experience and observation there is far more bigotry here and in the Left in general than there is among ordinary every day Americans (i.e. the Tea Party).

The diversity has been on the TV with the k-k-k, neo-n@z!$, white people riding free medicare electric scooters along with their misspelled signs. They have been a source of hilarity for the vast majority of regular people since the Koch Billionaires funded their astro-turf creation in 2009 through Dick Armey's Freedumbwerks front as the 'TEABAGGERS'. Months later they had to re-brand them as the tea party. I personally think you should do everything possible to have a Palin-Bachmann 2012 ticket fer jebus.

Really? they seem pretty stingy with that "grace and redemption" when it comes to liberals. Or gays. Or blacks. Or women. Or the poor.

But go ahead and tell me again what kind and compassionate people teh baggerz are....

If they're lies, then why hasn't she hired a lawyer, and claim libel and slander? They do it too, on the Republican side. Just look at what they did to John Kerry and Hillary Clinton.
