Scott Walker, Wisconsin Governor, Eyed In Corruption Probe After FBI Raid On Cynthia Archer's Home

DINESH RAMDE   09/16/11 04:05 PM ET   AP

MILWAUKEE — Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker said Friday all he knows about FBI agents seizing items from the home of one of his top agency officials is what he's seen in the media and that his office has not been told anything about the raid.

The first-term governor said "it's hard to tell" whether he should be concerned about Wednesday's raid on the home of Cynthia Archer, who was his aide while Milwaukee County executive and followed him to work in state government when he was elected governor.

"We don't know what exactly is involved," Walker said Friday when asked about the raid following an unrelated event in Milwaukee.

"Until we know, obviously it's a concern but again, I don't know any more details than what I've seen reported in the media outlets around the state," he added.

The raid came amid a secret Milwaukee County investigation that the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, citing unnamed people familiar with the case, has reported focuses on whether county staffers in Walker's office did political work on the taxpayer dime.

Walker said he has not been in touch with Archer.

Archer told The Associated Press on Thursday that she has done nothing wrong and hasn't been told whether she is part of the ongoing investigation. When asked what kinds of items were taken from her home, she said law enforcement officials had given her strict orders not to comment further.

Archer's neighbor, Dale Riechers, said FBI agents also came to his home and took a hard drive from an old computer he bought from Archer at a garage sale a few weeks ago.

The raid comes as a reminder of long-simmering questions surrounding work by Walker's county staffers, one of whom admitted last year to anonymously posting pro-Walker comments on websites while on county time. It also raises questions about how deep the investigation will go and what implications it could have for the rising Republican star.

Democratic Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm has declined to comment on the case, as has the FBI.

Walker said he couldn't comment about whether he believed the investigation was politically motivated.

"I don't know because I don't have any information about what it's based on," he said.

The Journal Sentinel reported that people familiar with the county investigation who spoke on condition of anonymity said the investigation focuses on the activities of Archer and Tom Nardelli, Walker's former county chief of staff. Both worked three years in Walker's county executive office then followed him to Madison after the November election.

Nardelli quit his state job in July and did not return messages seeking comment Friday. Archer served as deputy Department of Administration Secretary until she quit Aug. 19 and started the Children and Family Services job on Aug. 20 before going on paid medical leave.

Walker has said prosecutors have never contacted him in person but that his campaign had previously been asked for emails and information related to the staffer in his county office, Darlene Wink, who posted pro-Walker messages on websites on work time. Wink resigned in May 2010 after admitting to posting the anonymous comments on websites and blogs.

You'd think Walker could just call his good buddy Charles Koch and tell him he could use a few bucks so he could hire people to call and tell everyone what a great gut he is. This sounds a bit like the Rick Scott robocall gambit.

Next time Scott Walker tells you ... but I was an Eagle Scott , so was, CHARLES WHITMAN
Following what was, at the time, the worst mass murder in U.S. history investigators pore over the evidence, attempting to uncover clues into how and why it happened. What they learn about Charles Joseph Whitman will become a template for future law enforcement prevention and investigation of such crimes. At 12, Whitman was the youngest Eagle Scout in America. He was an altar boy and the pitcher on his Catholic school's baseball team. To everyone who knew him, Whitman seemed like the quintessential "all-American boy." However, on Aug. 1, 1966, at the age of 25, one day after he'd brutally murdered his mother and wife, Whitman carried a small arsenal of high-powered weapons and 700 rounds of ammunition to the top of the University of Texas clock tower. For 97 minutes, he shot at the students, teachers and bystanders below, wounding 31 and killing 14.

So what?

It is hard to tell if you are going to get away with whatever is being investigated next, especially when you've committed too many crimes to remember and have no idea which is one investigators are working on now.

Was Al Capone concerned? It's hard to tell. Are the Koch brothers concerned? It's hard to tell.

For those of you who grew up in the 50's, watching "westerns," the repubs, these days, are the guys in the black hats. Scott Walker would be the town suit, who is trying to buy up everyone's property to get the mineral and water rights.

Summary for repub lobbyists who come here: Koch funded his campaign and ran all kinds of so called public service announcements to discredit the opponent, basically, a smear campaign without identifying that they were doing the smearing. Then Walker gets his marching orders, which are just like those given to the other governors that Koch funded to get elected. They all, in lock step start instigating the same proposals. (All crazy) Jesus is an example of how people are crucified for wanting to do good things. If you are an opponent of the Koch candidates, and support healthcare, good paying jobs, work to eradicate poverty, believe in cooperation and community, as Jesus did, you will be crucified by Koch and in turn, the repub party.

Sounds a lot like what the union overlords did for the Democrats. Funded their campaigns, smeared the competition, gave the Dems talking points and issued marching orders, told them to run away to Illinois, tried to tie up legislation in court with partisan Dane County judges and then tried to undo the November 2010 elections with recalls. Yeah, just like Jesus.

Only problem is, the looney lost and continues to lose the general electorate with their crazy antics as they pull ever crazier "stunts" (such as vandalizing elementary schools and pouring beer on elected representatives, just like Jesus would).

Meanwhile, the evidence continues to mount each week that Scott Walker has righted the fiscal ship in Wisconsin against the special union interests who were accustomed to sweetheart deals from elected representatives.

Even dopey Tom Barrett has taken a cue from Walker and imposed contributions in Milwaukee while admitting the city is in much better fiscal shape (thanks to Walker) than projected.

So, you are part of the propaganda machine. How much do they pay you for parroting the false equivalents and false information?

(1) "The Union Overlords"?? Gimme a break !! Walker never MENTIONED that he planned to attack collective bargaining when he ran for office. The Kochs funded Scott's campaign with an agenda: to dimantle Unions in order to enrich THEMSELVES. Once Unions were attacked -- they had a right to fight back. (2) You ASSUME the Unions told the Dems to leave the State. Prove it. (3) Apparently u can't read the articles u post: the UNION recommended that the district try another healthcare provider. (4) Walker DOUBLED Milwalkee County's debt. Doubled it. He also did away with union security guards and privatized the force -- in a move that cost the county a fortune.

LOL all I can do is sit back and laugh. Walker needs to take off his shoe and see if he shot himself in the foot, Check the mirror for make up and a rubber nose. I think there may be a clown in the house.

Contracts get negotiated by people on two sides of the table. Contracts are legal and binding. Someones word should be worth something. When you sign on the dotted line, it is a done deal until the contract expires. What makes Wisconsin different than the rest of the planet? When you honor a contract you are honoring your word. Is there any honor in Wisconsin? Recent recalls suggest there is some,  Next election will determine how much. The rest of the nation is watching.

I'm sure the teacher's unions appreciated negotiating with school boards that included former teachers and teachers from other districts. Who would want to negotiate a sweetheart deal under those conditions?

First, a Wisconsin without a Walker would have been in the best interest of the state, PERIOD!

I don't live in Wisconsin and even I know that.

As for teachers paying their fair share, I say of course, but only if the state increases their pay to $1,000,000 / yr. Thereby, they will fall into the "Buffet Rule". How does that sound?

First, I see young adults and based on their behaviors in public, I know I wouldn't want to be a teacher. I always hear people complain about teachers pay and benefits. I ask, would you want to be a teacher in this day and age? I know I wouldn't. Teachers go to work before kids arrive and leave after they are gone. Many, when they go home are not done because they have to read and grade assignments so even at home they are still at work.

In my opinion, I do believe teachers are special because even now I remember many teachers who made a difference in my life. Mind you, this was at a time when teachers were just that. They weren't babysitters, counselors, referee's, etc, etc,.

So to answer your question, I believe they are already paying more than their fair share and if they need to form a union to ensure they are not abused by the system then I also agree they have that right. Did I leave anything out?

This has nothing to do with the fact that wisconsin public workers, school teachers, will Never have collective bargaining and will Always have to kick more in for their insurance and retirement!
No matter Who is governor.
And many other states will follow suit very soon...

These workers were hired based on a contract agreement with their employer; their employer is now violating that contract.

Hardly, but they can always leave the profession. There are many young teachers waiting for an opportunity.

No this has everything to do with Republicans not liking the fact that union workers contribute their money to an organization and then ok that donations to Democratic candidates. They want to eliminate any possible support to the Democratic party. Unions have also backed Republican candidates but generally it is Democratic candidates that support the middle class.

One recent happening in WI is the legislature voting to not pay the Madison police force for the service provided during the Budget bill protests. They voted to authorize other community police forces but are dragging their heels, apparently opposed to paying Madison officers--no surprise there.

So... they don't want to pay the guys who "protected" them. (Walker had this huge, unnecessary show of police force).
I can't wait to vote not to pay Walker and the Republican legislators.

I hope everyone realizes that by the redistricting taking place all over this country and Wisconsin also, that even people who might wish to stray from their usual Republican vote will have their vote rendered mute if they do. The redistricting will consolidate so much power to the Republican districts that the electoral college will become unstoppable. More Citizens United ...on steroids.

Nine years later, ex-caucus staffer on trial again.....(Republican caucus....)

"That's right - Schultz is scheduled for a two-week trial in late November for misconduct in office, a charge originally brought against her nine years ago.
This would be her second trial on the same charge."
...."U.S. Rep. Reid Ribble has left his House district.
The freshman congressman recently moved out of the apartment he had been renting in the 8th Congressional District and returned to the home he owns in Sherwood, several miles outside the district's boundary.
But his district is being redrawn so it will include his current residence beginning in 2013."

EXCELLENT ARTICLE !!!!
