Eagles vs. Falcons LIVE UPDATES: Michael Vick Returns To Atlanta As Starter

First Posted: 09/18/11 08:48 PM ET Updated: 11/18/11 05:12 AM ET

Michael Vick returns to the Georgia Dome as a starter on Sunday night as the Philadelphia Eagles square off against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 2. The last time Vick played in Atlanta, it was 2009 and he was the third-stringer behind Donovan McNabb and Kevin Kolb. The Falcons fans cheered their former star on as he finished with a touchdown through the air and on the ground.

Vick said earlier this week that he doesn't think he'll get much of a warm reception this time around.

Atlanta, led by quarterback Matt Ryan, is hoping to avoid going 0-2 while the Eagles are looking to notch another win on the road to stay undefeated.

Can the Falcons take down the "Dream Team" at home? Or will the Eagles use their speed to light up the Georgia Dome and move to 2-0? Follow our Sunday Night Football blog for live updates!

Falcons win on the final play. Defender bats it down. 35-31 Falcons!

Share this:

For some reason, Atlanta actually punted to DeSean Jackson (right down the middle). It looked like he had a lane but the Falcons stop him at Atlanta's 45.

Share this:

The Falcons will have to punt with 15 seconds left. Here comes DeSean Jackson. The Eagles have done this before.....

Share this:

Atlanta takes a knee and Atlanta burns their last timeout.

Share this:

Maclin reaches for the pass on the slant route, but drops it and the Eagles will likely go on to lose this game. They only have one timeout.

Share this:

Kafka throws another screen pass, this time to the right side, to Maclin again but Atlanta stops him behind the line of scrimmage. THEY'RE GOING FOR IT! (they kind of have to.)... after the timeout they just called. 1:45 left in the game.

Share this:

Kafka rushes for two yards and then throws a screen pass to Maclin for five yards. Big third down coming up after the 2-minute warning. Ball on Atlanta's 21.

Share this:

McCoy rushes up the middle for the first down. Big conversion for the Eagles. Can Kafka really lead them to a comeback??

Share this:

Kafka hits McCoy on a swing pass to McCoy. 3rd and 1 at Falcons 30-yard line.

Share this:

Kafka stars the drive with two big throws. Two big first downs. And now Philly is in Atlanta territory just like that. Ball on the 39. McCoy gets crushed as he rushes for two yards on first down.

Share this:

Dion Lewis makes a great kick return and runs for 63 yards. But a holding call brings it allllll the way back. First down inside the Eagles 10.

Share this:

Falcons take the lead with Turner's TD. 35-31 Atlanta. Vick is still out of the game. This isn't looking for the Eagles.

Share this:

Michael Turner gets the toss to the right side and pretty much walks into the end zone due to some poor tackling from the Eagles defenders.

Share this:

Rogers gets the carry this time and rushes for 10 more yards. First and goal.

Share this:

Falcons complete a short pass, go no-huddle and move the chains with another conversion from Tony G. 1st down on Philly's 13-yard line.

Share this:

After a holding penalty, Michael Turner rushes for a huuuge 61-yard gain and puts Atlanta in Eagles territory. Ball on the 26.

Share this:

Kafka throws a screen pass to Maclin, but the defenders stop him before the first down. Eagles forced to punt.

Share this:

Share this:

Kafka dumps it to McCoy but he is immediately hit after two yards. Big 3rd and long for Kafka.

Share this:

DeSean Jackson gets the reverse but can't do much and rushes for no gain.

Share this:

McCoy takes a handoff in shotgun (almost fumbled) and rushes for 19 yards and a first down.

@ EyeOnNFL : I guess we'll see what Mike Kafka is made of now.

The Falcons look like garbage this year. They won the game only after Vick went out. Didn't think I'd say it, but Matt Ryan just isn't that good. He's a middle-of-the-road QB in the league.

Im a big fan of M Vick... about as fine an athlete as we are ever to see..
But until the Eagles get rid of Andy Reed they will never be winners
No matter how many great players he brings into the club.
All he wind up doing is using them up.

Still amazes me.... 200,000 Guatemalians killed, so called terrorists tortured to death in tiny cells, 10's of thousands of children starving in Somalia.. And dogs are eaten in half the countries in the world.. he wasnt a child molester, or a murderer like some of our policy makers really are... but Ohh, those cute puppies... only in America were we wanting to hang this man from some tree branch. Get over it.. he paid his dues.

I watched the ending of the game when Ryan and the Falcons cam alive to win .
~ a shame that Vick was not there to respond ( hope he is ok )

Hard earned redemption should always be allowed the chance for success.

Painful, made me feel better for keeping him on my bench... though it was still a stupid move

Did you guys see that tackle on Matt Ryan where he was forced to do the splits while his head was bent sideways? Ouch! I was surprised he didn't go out for a while.

The Falcons shouldn't have waited so long to use their no-huddle offense. After they switched, the Eagles' defense had trouble stopping them.

Why Jerry why? You had Romo. Nobody would of shed a tear if you cut him. We could of had Vick so cheaply in Dallas but you let Philly pick him up for a song. What were you worried about? I mean geez were the team that went 11 and 3. Eleven arrests and three convictions......did you think we fans would of blinked at Vick joining the team? Ok so you blew a great opportunity...no go get us a REAL quarterback!!!

The outcome really screwed my fantasy football but it was one great game! I was particularly impressed with Matt Ryan and he has developed into quite a QB. He reminds me a lot of Peyton Manning in how he runs the team and his game. Great Sunday night viewing!
