Win a Trip to Huff Post's Game Changers 2011 Event in NYC

First Posted: 09/20/11 11:00 PM ET   Updated: 11/18/11 05:12 AM ET

This October, politicos, industry leaders, and Hollywood stars will come together to honor the Huffington Post's Ultimate Game Changer of 2011. We'll celebrate the incredible strides these individuals have made across industries and reflect on the accomplishments of all of our nominees.

Last year, Anderson Cooper was on hand to honor Sean Penn for his work in Haiti. Mayor Cory Booker turned out to honor Biz Stone and Livia McRee for their philanthropic work. Mayor Michael Bloomberg joined Nora Ephron and Gayle King as we looked back on the progress Geoffrey Canada made in transforming education in Harlem.

This year, our Game Changers roster promises another incredible evening of recognizing the work of extraordinary individuals, and YOU can be a part of it. The Huffington Post will fly you and the Game Changer in your life to the October 18th event in NYC. To enter to win a trip to the event, submit a photo and a few sentences about the Game Changer in your life to be eligible for the Game Changers Win A Trip Sweepstakes. Entries will be accepted through October 9, 2011. One winner will be selected at random and announced on the site on October 10, 2011. Click here for Official Sweepstakes Rules.

I would like to nominate all persons who leave their own interests behind to serve anything and anybody living on this planet. Any person with enough guts and courage to face the governements and other entities against all odds in order to do something for this planet and all its habitants.

As a Travel Facilitator and Interpreter for foreign visitors to the southwest of the US, I have become aware of the sacrilege littering still happening on Native land and this not only by the tourists or the Government, but the Natives themselves..So that is why I have decided that as soon as my season is over, I will champion among the Native Children, the safe keeping and cleaning of their sacred land by organizing clean up and educational Pow Wows to make the children realize how important their land is and the cleaning of it.
This winter I will contact all the key people in the reservations, to start doing something about all the litter on their land.
To start with, there should not be any private vehicles of any kind allowed beyond the information center of the Tribal Monument Valley Tribal Park. Second there should be a publicity campaign on television and radio to encourage all the Tribes to clean up all the rubbish on their land or what is left of it.

David Wojnarowicz posthumously for bringing attention to the ill-informed american population the urgency of HIV/AIDS affecting all of us. Few could hold a mirror up to the ugliness of the Reagan administration and the extreme ugliness of the Jesse Helms posse as DW. We would not be where we are now with research and potential cures had it not been for the courageous activists of the 1980's.

BOB BARKER--his generous 5 million dollar donation to The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society was used to purchase a new vessel for the organization which made the critical difference in shutting down the illegal Japanese commercial whaling activities in the southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary--saving over 900 whales in 2011! He is also actively engaged in releasing captive elephants into sanctuaries across North America. Thank you Bob!!!

CAPTAIN PAUL WATON: The youngest founding member of Greenpeace, Captain Paul Watson formed The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society in 1977--a direct action marine conservation organization that tackles some of the most critical issues plaguing the world's oceans including shark finning, seal hunting and dolphin slaughters to longlining, drift nets and poaching. This past year he and his brave crew of all volunteers shut down the illegal Japanese commercial whaling fleet in The Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary--an effort 7 years in the making in some of the harshest conditions on Earth. Over 2000 whales have been spared on his watch in Antarctic waters and countless other marine mammals and habitats around the world due to his steadfast dedication and relentless vision for a world that respects and lives in harmony with nature. Bravo Captain!

I nominate Anthony Lanzi, Retired Elementary School Teacher, for his dedication and commitment to every child from the wrong side of someone elses tracks. He inspired many students to have a dream, and to make the dream come true. He did this with me---Now an Author of poetry and a low level actor. He did this with Jan Watson Best a Author of several books. He did this with Mark Hapka one of his students who went on to play as Nathan Horton on "Days of Our Lives." There are others of his students of long ago that went on to excel in other acting and media arenas. If chosen all will be surprised as to who they now are! There are others that finally through chance encounters inspired me as well such as My Chiropractor Mike Tuccirone, then later his friend and ex business partner in the magic business Jim Karol the greatest mind and psychic and actor that played on Jackass2. If it were not for Mr. Lanzi the teacher of my youth and these two I'd still be convinced that my purpose in life was served and over-with. Along with the Doc's encouragement, and later a conversation on the phone with Jim Karol, I began to re-evaluate my way of thinking. Soon, I began to see the success of those associated with Mr. Lanzi, the school teacher from my past, now I was really convinced to go after my dream.

I would have to nominate Thomas Power, Chairman of Ecademy.com who is a true visionary about the social media/digital revolution that the world is currently treading. He is an open net-worker and taught me all he knew about social media and its various platforms.

I would have to nominate my friend Rick. If he hadn't had those letters of transit and a crush on Ilsa then the cause would have been sunk...He also helped me get rid of a real pest who was gumming up the works with his meedling.

Rick Blaine gets my vote. Besides, I love New York!

Unemployment in America

© 2011 Alan Abel

Why not establish a 24-hour television channel that highlights available jobs throughout America? All kinds in fifty states. Including working for the government. And Uncle Sam pays for relocating while the employer arranges affordable housing.
Certainly this plan would create a national migration of individuals and families.
But if you’re married with two kids, lost your job and health insurance, no more unemployment insurance and depleted all savings, your only alternative is bankruptcy, and possibly a homeless shelter. So why not move to another city and get a new life?

Employers can email their requirements to a central office with full details. Staff workers then post the openings on line and the TV channel simultaneously. Thousands will apply for each job and the most desperate advised to send their resumes and photos. The others are urged to seek another employment opportunity on the government web site or its TV channel.
Meantime, the governor of each state and the mayors of cities, will be asked to locate and list the vacant and abandoned factories or buildings in their communities that could be converted into low cost housing.
Our country is the greatest. During World War II army engineers could build bridges across the rivers overnight. By morning tanks, trucks and troops were crossing a river to engage and defeat the enemy. We need that sort of ingenuity during these catastrophic times now. Let’s build bridges over the troubled waters in America!

Lately, it seems to me that us regular "stiffs" are being enticed to participate in this or that for an opportunity to be with the "in crowd". Many ask for a contribution, like the current "dinner with the President", or last year's "dinner with Bill Clinton", both of which I contributed to but was not chosen to be one of the few winners. I contribute because I believe in the cause; however, the thought of dinner with President Obama, or a cruise with all the "wonderful people" frustrates me because I never seem to get a break.
I'll try to participate in this contest, but am not holding off on putting my summer clothes away.

Laughter club in Phoenix. How? In Jan. 2010 I was on the verge of losing the house I had shared. My housemate lost her job and the bank started foreclosure proceedings. As a disabled person with 4 rescued dogs. I panicked. I tried suicide but I just couldn't kill my dogs. After crying, I pulled myself together. I found the laughter club and it's changed my attitude so very much. I'm still on the edge living in a trailer park I cannot afford but laughter makes me whole. Thanks laughter club.
