NEW YORK -- The U.S. wants Turkey to "keep the door open" to improved ties with Israel.
U.S. officials say Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton warned Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu (Da-vo-TOE'-lu) in New York to avoid actions that could further strain relations between the U.S. allies. The officials spoke about the private meeting on condition of anonymity.
The two diplomats met on the sidelines of the annual United Nations General Assembly meeting about Turkey's threat to send its navy to escort future aid convoys to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. Turkey is furious about a deadly Israeli commando raid last year on an aid ship from Turkey.
