Michele Bachmann 'Surprised' By Jay Leno Interview Questions (AUDIO)

First Posted: 09/19/11 01:47 PM ET Updated: 11/19/11 05:12 AM ET

During a radio interview on Monday, Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann said she was "surprised" by questions presented to her during a recent appearance on NBC's "Tonight Show."

The conservative congresswoman sat down for an interview with Jay Leno that aired last Friday night.

"Well, I was very surprised because we had had a pre-show interview and that wasn't at all what I was told we were going to be talking about," Bachmann said of the segment on WLS Radio's "Don Wade and Roma Show." She added, "So I was very surprised."

Leno asked Bachmann about eyebrow-raising remarks she recently made about the HPV vaccine, as well as her position on gay marriage.

Below, audio of what Bachmann had to say about the interview on Monday. Scroll down for video of the presidential candidate's "Tonight Show" appearance.

What I don't get is why the HPV is so bad. The government requires several vaccines. Why is the one aimed at women's health such a big deal

Hint: HPV is sexually transmitted. Hence, bible beaters tend to get themselves into a tizzy when considering their child would have to have sex to get it. (As opposed to measles, all they need to get that is to live near some lunatic that doesn't vaccinate their children based on fear of autism.)

By what judgment system not based on reality do you come to that conclusion? Being strong is not a moral value - Hitler, Pol Pot, Pharaoh, and Caesar were all strong. And being beautiful is irrelevant, especially physical beauty which I assume you are talking about because she is very clearly not at all beautiful on the inside.

I prefer a moral, intelligent, critically thoughtful compassionate and merciful person - Jesus' qualities - over beautiful and strong any day.

Seems MB believes in Nanny State Interviews -- they demand the questions and the answers and get mad when they don't get what they want.......

Like Republicans and their "free speech zones" when they're showing up somewhere. Or Bush and his "Town Hall Meetings" in which every person in the "town hall" was vetted beforehand and their questions were either vetted or, more likely, handed out by Rove ("You - you in the blue shirt! - you will ask this question. You will read it exactly, or you and your entire extended family will be audited every year of Bush's presidency!!!!!!!") Disgusting, awful beings they are.

So what did she say that was different than what she always says. She has it all down rote, never waivers from strictly defined talking points whether or not on point.

If she can't handle a light weight like Jay Leno how would she ever handle the Russians or Iran???
I would love to see her have a migrain as an excuse for not answering the phone at 3am.
Wait, her husband will answer and take the call.

Another Palin Clone or clown. To be a politician is to be fast on your feet and a quick thinker. She is neither.

She was shocked because she spends all her time on FAUX NEWS and they arent allowed to ask any real questions. The last time a FAUX NEWS reporter asked a Republican a difficult question they got fired.

FOX News tonight included Bachmann again in the so-called "top tier of three" ... despite her gaffes and lies.

Leno you should be ashamed for ambushing Michele Bachmann by asking her, "What is your name?"

The fact is, the HPV vaccine will save thousands and thousands of women from a terminal disease, cervical cancer. And the vaccine should be taken before women become sexually active; I recommend age 14 - 16. Michele should take an hour or so, read up on this vaccine, check out the PDR, talk with some medical doctors, then make appropriate comments about this important vaccine. It is obvious she knows very little about the vaccine and some of what she believes is wrong.

Really, the HPV vaccine should be given to all children as a matter of course. It's just another safe, effective method for preventing a horrible, potentially fatal disease.

Michele Bachmann should have realized that Jay Leno is a hard-hitting interviewer. :)

It would seem that simple, honest, straight forward answers wouldn't be too difficult unless Ms. Bachmann has something to hide (or spin) from her constituents who probably have no idea what she's talking about, since their hearing aids are probably off at that time of night, anyway. Perhaps their hearing-ear dogs could explain it later by pointing at the easy words in the flip book.

Did you catch it when she say she was convicted instead of committed or some other word?
09:11 PM on 09/20/2011
She meant to say "convicted." Wingnut politicians, playing to their base, use many code words just to let the base know they know the lingo, and thus, are for real. Convicted: "I have been convicted of my sins." Translation: "I have acknowledged my sins and have asked and received God's forgiveness." Bachmann and others fill their rhetoric with obscure biblical terms.

Thank you, I had no idea that they had their own language and that's odd considering how poorly they use the english language.
