Lynyrd Skynyrd To Open Vegas Restaurant

First Posted: 09/20/11 05:32 PM ET Updated: 11/20/11 05:12 AM ET

Lynyrd Skynyrd has found a new sweet home, but it's a bit of a trek from Alabama. The rock band plans to open a barbecue joint in Las Vegas' Excalibur hotel. The Las Vegas Sun describes the venue:

Lynyrd Skynyrd BBQ & Beer will feature Texas-style barbecue for breakfast, lunch and dinner, then transform into a late night club with music and entertainment after hours. Band memorabilia will line the walls, and members have promised to play occasional shows along with cover bands. Dancing bartenders will perform nightly and host customers in sing-alongs.

Perhaps if fans of aging rockstars can't get enough from all the Lynyrd Skynyrd memorabilia, they can head to the KISS-themed coffeehouse, set to open in Las Vegas as well.

We are already fearing the hordes of drunk people screaming out "Freebird" requests every evening.

Translation: Since nobody comes to our "revival" shows anymore it was either the restaurant gig or Saturday morning TV hawking the 70's Gold Compilation.

Texas style? These boys are from north Florida!

My menu suggestions:
Opossum
Armadillo
Raccoon

All freshly run over in the parking lot at the time of your order!

Except for "Simple Man" and "The Ballad of Curtiss Lowe" I could go the remainder of my life without hearing Lynard Skynrd. And what's with Texas bbq?

Swamp music. I love that song. I did see the original Lynyrd Skynyrd band at the "Leroy" in Pawtucket, RI a long time ago. Are there any original band members left? And I thought they were from Gainsville ,Fl? Whats with the Texas BBQ?

Those southern rockers from the early 70s were grittier and louder than the country rock groups that came before. Lynyrd Skynyrd first hit in 1973 with “Gimme Three Steps,” a bar brawl tune that was based on a true story. On Rockaeology at http://bit.ly/eDpt3B guitarist Gary Rossington tells what happened when Ronnie Van Zant was caught dancing with the wrong guy’s girlfriend at the Little Brown Jug, a Jacksonville bar.
