The Moviefone Blog:

You'll often hear 'Harry Potter' fans compare the film series to 'Star Wars.' For devout followers of Hogwarts's most-impressive student, the juxtaposition is done as a way to explain their fandom to a slightly older audience -- ones who used to camp out overnight in anticipation of the next chapter in the story of Luke and Leia.

Ha! That got a laugh out of me. 'Star Wars' is like 'Casablanca'. By that I mean when I was young Casablanca was 34 years old and seemed remarkably dated, and to young folks today Star Wars is also 34 years old and seems remarkably dated.

Dated movies are still good...in fact, I just watched "Casablanca" last week. The original Star Wars is by far the best offering from the franchise - there is more to story telling than special effects. And since this young man is "in the business", he should see it. It's movie history and an important part of it at that. In fact, if it hadn't been for the popularity of Star Wars, there might not be the innundation of today's SF, Super Hero and Fantasy film genre that we enjoy - and that offered Mr. Radcliffe the wonderful entree into his profession.

The better comparison to the Harry Potter series is "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings". Similar themes of evil and wizardry, and to Daniel's point, probably more evenly split in terms of the gender of the fans since they were books before they were movies.

That said, I loved the original Star Wars movies.

Yep! He says he's a nerd...but it is a cover up! He can't be if he hasn't seen the original Star Wars. Next thing we'll hear he's never watched Star Trek :)

I'm shocked. It came out 12 years before he was born. Has he seen Gone With The Wind?
