GREEN CAMP, Ohio -- An 80-year-old man is in fair condition after a kangaroo attacked him for 15 minutes at an exotic-animal farm in central Ohio.

The Columbus Dispatch reports that the Marion County sheriff's office received a 911 call Tuesday from a woman saying her father-in-law was hurt. Maj. Jeff Cline says the injury happened at Kokas Exotics in Green Camp.

The Advocate of Newark reports the man was in fair condition Wednesday at a Columbus hospital.

The farm owner's son told WCMH-TV the man was attacked by a 6-foot-tall, 200-pound male kangaroo. The station reports the attack came at breeding time when males can be aggressive.

The son says the kangaroo will be euthanized.

Ohio's lax pet laws came under scrutiny last year when a bear killed its caretaker near Cleveland.

Same as Hollie White Cardenas and Hillary Crossposter: it is inappropriate to kill (euthanize) an animal that acts or reacts normally, as this one did (story says kangaroos are usually more aggressive during breeding season) This kangaroo should be placed in a sanctuary where he will be properly cared for, for the rest of his life. If possible the owner(s) should contribute to the cost of this handover. If they truly cared for that animal, they would have proposed this solution themselves. No one who cares about an animal would allow it to be euthanized if there were any alternative. That alone speaks volumes.

Poor Kangaroo. Animals shouldn't have to pay with their lives for human stupidity.

Yeah...if we euthanized human males for acting like males, there wouldn't be 6 billion people on the planet. Just remove the 'roo from the general population in the season of male frogginess!

Trap, stick 'em in a cage for entertainment and then kill 'em. Yep, that's American as apple pie.
Of course the un-neutered male kangaroo flipped out.
Stupid, savage humans, again.

Hopefully they won't kill the animal. Never heard of neutering a kangaroo but that seems to be a better solution. Males of any mammal species can become the victims of their hormones, including porpoises and humans. Come to think of it, maybe neutering would be a better solution as well with some young, aggressive human males who're always in trouble.

All the time the Kangaroo was screaming: "I'm not exotic, I'm displaced. Where are my people? Where is my land?"

I really don't wanna laugh, cause getting beat up by ANYTHING wild, is no joke. However, I just keep seeing that kangaroo from the old bugs bunny cartoons, that never spoke and wore boxing gloves and kicked people to kingdom come.

"The station reports the attack came at breeding time when males can be aggressive." Instead of killing the kangaroo, blaming him, he should've been isolated from people until his breeding time was over. He never should've been there. I think he was just a novelty. Second of all the bear attack that was mentioned here in Cleveland? He took this bear and forced him to wrestle with people. People thought that oh so entertaining. A care taker went into the cage and the bear attacked. No reason as I recall was given. The man wasn't charged, and he was allowed to keep his bear and he shouldn't have.

Having read all comments so far, everyone is thinking of this as a petting zoo, but the report says exotic animal farm. Farm means agriculture, slaughter, meat...the offending kangaroo was facing an unjust and violent death anyhows.

It's a mistake to euthanize the roo. We know better not to get in their ways. Why don't we respect their boundaries? If they keep that law everywhere, then all animals will be extinct if we keep going in their ways everywhere. It's selfish not to forgive the roo. To forgive is divine.

Male kangaroos are known to be aggressive and territorial. What caused this male to attack the father-in-law? It seems questionable that this family should be allowed to raise exotic animals if they don't know the basics about handling kangaroos. It is also a shame that they will euthanize this animal since it was most likely doing what it instinctively knows how to defend itself.
