Michelle Obama Wears Pricey (Borrowed) Diamonds On NYC Trip (PHOTOS)

It was a brief trip, but Michelle Obama made the most of her New York City stay.

The First Lady chose a bright, modern look on the way to NYC and a bold, sexy ensemble for her Tuesday events. But en route home, Obama exited Air Force One in a classically cut dress with a flouncy skirt paired with a basic black cardigan.

Not so basic? The First Lady's jewels. A local Houston paper reported that Obama paired her black halter dress on Tuesday with some very pricey diamonds by Katie Decker.

FLOTUS borrowed three jeweled bracelets from Decker's showroom for the occasion, including the "Lotus" cuff with 2.9 carat diamonds costing at $15,000, the "Gothic" cuff with 2.17 carats diamonds for $15,350 and the "Quatrefoil" bracelet featuring 1.73 carat diamond priced at $11,800.

Did Michelle feel the need to get all dolled up for glamorous NYC?

It never ceases to amaze me how HP writers can put a positive spin on the attire that Michelle wears. The dress she is wearing while exiting Air Force One has got to be made from a set of horrible looking drapes. But HP calls it a classically cut dress with a flouncy skirt paired with a black cardigan, this writer should absolutely become a fiction writer, because putting a positive spin on this continuous style disaster really takes a creative imagination.

So, what I am learning from some of the comments is that many "patriotic" people in the U.S. would prefer the First Lady (a representative of our nation's good will) to dress like she shops at Wal Mart. Great Call! We are so awesome. I am thinking that the real problem is not what she wears, rather that whole part of HER being the person that represents our nation's good will (or lack there of in this case).

Love her. I am so darn proud of Mrs. Obama. The bracelet was borrowed, what the hell is the big deal. There isn't a one of us if we were gong to some special event, a wedding or whatever and someone said we could borrow a fancy bracelet, or designer dress or whatever. There isn't one of us who would turn it down. So the big deal is what, I ask? I think the world of Mrs. Obama and I am so proud to call her the First Lady of the United States. Now let me go watch the show Extreme Home makeover, where this First Lady is up there to help build a home for the Homeless Female Veterans. Mrs. Obama is the best, and I am darn proud of her bracelet or no bracelet.

It cannot be hidden, either.
Mrs. Obama is smart, confident and capable.
She looks appropriate at every event she attends.

Michelle Obama doesn't get it; although an incredibly smart lady, she comes across as frivolous. Tone down the quasi-fashion bit -- even if the outfits are inexpensive H&M layered rags. A more conservative look will greatly benefit her husband's reelection; people are looking for reassurance that all will be OK.

You got it wrong. The argument is not that she should dress poorly, just the opposite; the call is for an upgrade to understated elegant clothes that take away the semblance of frivolity and superficiality, none of which she has. This is an election year and everything counts

Yeah, I have to agree. I mean she IS the First Lady. No one expects her to be a Target or H&M shopper. It's a nice gesture once in a while (like at an elementary school appearance) that brings her down to earth. Most of the time, however, she needs to dress the part.

Well folks there's no accounting for taste of the lack thereof.
Let's leave all the first Lady's detractors alone.
I 'm sure they feel they all look positively divine in their polyester lederhosen and Walmart Underoos.
We can all just snicker quietly behind our hands and hope they remember to un-tuck the back of their skirts from their pantyhose and scrape the TP off their shoes.
