FBI Training Materials: Muslims 'Inherently Violent,' 'Radical'

First Posted: 09/23/11 11:25 AM ET Updated: 11/23/11 05:12 AM ET

wired.com:

Following months of denials, the FBI is now promising a "comprehensive review of all training and reference materials" after Danger Room revealed a series of Bureau presentations that tarred average Muslims as "radical" and "violent."

But untangling the Islamophobic thread woven into the FBI's counterterrorism training culture won't be easy. In addition to inflammatory seminars which likened Islam to the Death Star and Mohammed to a "cult leader," Danger Room has obtained more material showing just how wide the anti-Islam meme has spread throughout the Bureau.

The FBI training materials is for FBI Academy students, not high school or college students. They are hired for their ability to weed out the bull. Heck when I went through the police academy I knew that at least half the stuff being taught wouldn't apply to what actually happens on the streets.

I'm used to small mindedness, but from a Federal Government agency charged with being fair this is unacceptable. Certainly the materials are the work of one group...

May be that is why the FBI has been so successful in preventing terrorist from achieving there goals. Whom are you kidding when you say religion of peace.

I find this article to be reaching. To say that a library should not have books on all point of view is not very democratic. Because the FBI investigates hate crimes commited by racist againt muslims, so to know the mind of that type of person is important. I imagine if you are not of that mindframe you probably have to read or hear about it from someone else. This is just one aspect of this article that is off, but the main fact is that there is not evidence in this article or any other of institutional racism againt muslims by the FBI as the title would suggest.

I agree. another non-story. By these standards, just about every college and seminary in the country/world is " bigoted ", along with all the military academies, the Army War College, and I'd be willing to bet you can find some of these " Documents " ( i.e.-books? ) in the Vatican, right next to the works of Lenin and Trotsky, Mein Kampf and Maos Little Red Book.

Islam is not a race. That's an important distinction.

Benjamin Franklin "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." You have the right to be a bigot. Your bigotry is also a threat to the USA.

The bigotry comes into play when people confuse a few criminal fanatics with an entire religion of 1.6 Billion people, and worse, feel that those fanatics do what they do because of the religion (which is crazy; if Muslim fanaticism was because of Islam, we'd see a LOT more of it, obviously).

Unfortunately, bigotry has been an FBI hallmark for decades. The question remains why?

I unfortunately think it is institutional racism. Reading the article reminded me of J. Edgar Hoover's FBI during the Civil Rights Movement.

How many Islamic Democracies are there?
09:24 AM on 09/25/2011
Your question is very ambiguous. Islam is a religion; not a country. Are you asking how many Muslim majority countries operate as a democracy? If so, the question demonstrates an amount of naivety regarding British Imperialism, where puppet dictators and tyrants were placed in Muslim countries. Do you think the Syrian people actually voted for Bashar Al-Assad????

None is the answer.

Timely question. The world is about to find out. Will Egypt be a good neighbor to the world, just like Iran, if the Islamic Brotherhood wins democratic elections?

Isn't this a moot point as America is NOT a democracy?

1. A form of government in which all power is vested in a few persons or in a dominant class or clique; government by the few.

We might have been a representative democracy at one point, but we clearly meet the definition of an oligarchy today. All one has to do is listen to the rhetoric about those poor corporations and the top 1% who are struggling in this tough economy. Job creator this, job creator that....

To those that would seek to justify this just remember that Islamo-phobia undermines the religious freedom this country was founded on and will lead to countless lawsuits that Muslims will win and rightly so! That would hamper the FBI from protecting us and cut down on tips from non-extremist Muslims who currently are a great source of intel because they are tired of being painted with the same brush as the extremists...

If you want to change the constitution then you are going to have to submit an amendment and get it passed! If you think you get to pick and choose for OTHER people what their religion means to them and spy on them based solely on their religion, then what makes you think your favorite religion couldn't be next? It's freedom for ALL or NONE of us are free.

Not surprising seeing as how the press is full of entirely negative news about the Islamic World. However one would hope the FBI would be smart enough not to fall for the rhetoric and see the difference between individual criminals and a greater population that has done nothing wrong. it’s profiling and it’s un Constitutional.

From an article: Even though the American White supremacy movement was founded in Christian fundamentalism, and even though George W. Bush claimed to have "visions" from his Christian God to go to Iraq and kill over 100,000 innocent Iraqis, even though Timothy McVeigh was born into the Christian faith, we would never think for a millisecond that Jesus Christ or any verses of the bible were the cause of these horrendous, stupid acts of men. Therefore it is un-American and against everything that we believe in as a country to associate the 1.6 billion Muslims or 23% of the world's population with the acts of a few, very evil men. I pray that all of the Muslims who might hate Christians because of George Bush's actions, or the blacks or Jews or non-Whites who might hate Christians because of the historical genocide of their people, or the Christians who might hate Muslims for the acts of Osama bin Laden and his culprits, I hope they know that the overriding theme of Jesus Christ, Muhammad, Abraham and Lord Buddha was to love all people of all races and all religions.
