George Ashman, 5-Year-Old Boy, Gets Devil Horn Implants To Remove Birthmark

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 09/24/11 08:44 PM ET Updated: 11/24/11 05:12 AM ET

When George Ashman was born in 2006 with a large unsightly red scar on his forehead, his mother feared he'd become a target for bullies.

"When he was born, immediately my mind raced forward 10 years. George would be the picked-on kid with no friends, no girlfriend," mom Karen Ashman of Somerset, United Kingdom, told the Daily Mail.

The haemangioma birthmark was made up of bright, soft lumps of abnormal blood vessels, making it tricky to remove.

After the family sought help from the Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, doctors implanted devil-like horns to stretch out the skin on his forehead so the blemish could then be removed, The Daily Mirror reports.

IB Times explains that "small inflatable sacks were inserted under his hairline at either side of his forehead," which filled up with natural bodily fluid. Over four months, the pair of horns stretched the skin, allowing for his birthmark to be removed.

Fortunately, the surgery was a success and George only has a minor scar left on his forehead.

Why do people associate horns with the devil? Last time I checked, goats had them too as did many other animals...

People MUST stop being followers... For Thousands of Years- kids have tolerated "Bullies". Until some moron who got beat up and came up with some stupid "Anti-Bullying Stance". It does NOTHING but breed Timid,Cowardly Kids soon to be "Mommy Help Me" "Adults". These KIDs will eventually become Police,Military and so on. We DONT need such cowards coming into such power as they WILL end up with PTSD when yelled at by a civilian.. We have Men in war NOW- watching their friends heads get blown off while they are talking to them. NO WAY IN HELL could a "Pussyfied Kid" be of ANY constructive use in Society. It is Psychologically Damaging to have a Male be protected by Grandma all his life! Kiss his boo-boos- yell at his cheating girlfriends and so on.. This is disgusting and scarey to much degree. STOP IT PEOPLE! Some in comments are talking about assaulting a LITTLE BOY for prodding the Kids Horns! It is a BIT odd to see horns on a person people.. Id HATE to see what Damage your doing to your kids Mind!

I guess a factual headline of "lucky boy has medical procedure to correct birthmark" wouldn't have gathered such a crowd. I would have read it with the less sensational headline.

A little zig zag scare would have made him very popular. He is in England.

When I seen the headline, I was freaking out. Things parents do these days....
Anyway, I can't blame the mother. Kids are MEAN. That birthmark was bad. She was doing what she thought was in his best interest, and I agree. There's a reason kids are killing themselves over bullies.

Don't think your readers will be interested in medical news? Disguise it as something else.

I don't understand any of you!
First of all, the "Devil horns" are not permanent- they are just stretching the skin into normality for a little while and then will disappear. It's not like he as some sort of curved sharp tusks pointing out of his head!
Second of all, CHILD ABUSE?! are you kidding me>? This was a medical problem, and if you READ about all the bullying and suicides occurring with young people lately, this mother had a lot of foresight and did what she should do before her son could possibly become a victim. In today's crazy world, you never know!
Hope everything works out!

The word "devil" sends some people into a frenzy. That's why it was used, and that's why so many people came to post responses which show a complete lack of knowledge or understanding about this wonderful medical procedure.

Its a good thing he had that thing removed...they can grow very large and they can deform him. They never stop growing they have an unlimited blood supply.

I am going to have to disagree, to an extent. My son was born with 2 haemangiomas and by age 10, they have both disappeared. It's the most common type of tumor for an infant to have and they typically disappear by age 10.

One of my son's haemangioma was the size of a large pea, the other was the size of a silver dollar. The doctors indicated that, if it did not disappear on its own, they could laser it, leaving a small scar. Not being able to see the size of the haemangioma on this boy, it's hard to tell if the parents were overreacting or not.

I had a similar procedure to remove a large facial scar. The process is painful, but not newsworthy. Leave the kid alone.

well hopefully more parents and doctors will know what to do after "reading" this when they come across such a birthmark.

How does he know if the devil has horns?..According to scripture lucifer was the most majestic of all angels.Even the serpent in The Garden of Eden was said to be magnificent creature until it was cursed for its deceit.

You seem to know scriptures but maybe answered your own question...Even though there is no account of Satan having horns I am sure if there was a transformation it was after he was cursed and throw out of heaven..GOD RULES....can I get an AMEN!
