Healthy Vacations: 7 Retreats To Relax, Refresh And Rejuvenate Body And Mind (PHOTOS)

With the surging popularity of glamping, and the smooth pop melodies of luxe all-inclusives haunting our dreams, getting away these days seems to be all about conspicuous consumption.

On the other hand are getaways that urge guests to look inward, and use vacation as a time to detoxify the mind, body and spirit. From the Buddhist meditation retreats that promote simplicity, to yoga and health resorts that combine that aspect of luxury with personal wellness, there is something out there for everyone. No matter if it’s for two weeks or two days, health retreats offer a retreat from the normal vacation.

Situated in a mountain valley in northern Colorado, this spiritual retreat takes its name from the legend of Shambhala, a tradition that believes humans possess wisdom, compassion and goodness. Programs include Buddhist meditation retreats, writing retreats, music retreats, yoga retreats and training in ancient healing arts like quigong. There's also the opportunity for self-guided sojourns.

In the winter stay in the lodge, while summer affords the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors in platform tents. Rates vary by season and length of stay, but three daily meals are included. Visit the website for more info.

or if you don't feel like WASTING a shoot tonne of money going far away....go to the lake closest to you.

Perfect vacation: (so good we are buying a house in the Poconos)

1. pack whiskey
2. get life jackets for your dogs
3. hop in a boat with oars or paddles
4. set ipod to Radio Head
5. Row to middle of lake
6. cuddle dogs
7. drink whiskey
8. row back
9. drink more whiskey
10. eat with your dogs by campfire.

Please do not give your dogs whiskey.....

Vegetarian, exercise, meditation, probably vows of silence too. Doesn't sound relaxing to me at all.

I can't decide where to go for my vacation this year.

But I have narrowed it down...

...either the spacious backyard or the neighborhood park. :)

Always good to have dream vacations in mind. As a stress reliever, vacations can help right from the first planning stages, during the actual break, then long after as a fond set of memories. Vacations have proven value in stress relief, even if only for a week-end. There is no vacation, there is only life, and life is only a vision of a false reality.

Has anyone done the Island Experience? It sounds exactly like the get away I would love to do. Just wonder if it's done well.
