Redskins vs. Cowboys LIVE UPDATES: Monday Night Football Week 3

First Posted: 09/26/11 08:51 PM ET Updated: 11/26/11 05:12 AM ET

The Redskins-Cowboys rivalry runs deep. Real deep. Dallas and Washington square off on Monday Night Football for the 15th time tonight, and after DeAngelo Hall's comments about targeting Tony Romo's ribs, it looks like it's going to be a good one. Romo, coming off an incredible performance in Dallas' comeback win over San Francisco last week, will start tonight with hurt ribs, while teammates Dez Bryant and Felix Jones will also play with injuries. The Redskins have a chance to be one of the few surprise teams after three weeks (Buffalo, Oakland) and improve to 3-0 and 2-0 in the division. Will the Redskins gain a two-game advantage in the NFC East? Or will the Cowboys take care of business in their home opener? Follow our Monday Night Football blog for live updates!

@ ChrisHarrisNFL : No one really appreciates field goal execution/operation until u have a botched snap. Snap, hold, kick! Most underappreciated part of football

Share this:
@ gmuhoops : Embarrassing for Skins, Cowboys O was awful

Share this:

Dallas' rookie kicker came through tonight on a big stage tonight. Romo, meanwhile, played well enough despite pain and a complete disconnect from his center to get Cowboys offense in position to kick game-winning field goal.

Share this:
@ BlkSportsOnline : According to Gruden & Jaws ..Romo won this game by himself...Fellas the COWBOYS DEFENSE deserves as much acclaim

Share this:
@ espn_macmahon : That's the 11 fourth quarter comeback of Tony Romo's career. Second this season. Pretty good for a so-called choker.

Share this:

Before the clock even hits 10 seconds. Cowboys win.

Share this:

And, that will do it. After being flushed from pocket, Grossman rolls scanning up field and is caught from behind by Spencer. He strips him and his teammates recover.

Share this:

Nothing happening and clock running, so he tosses it out. 38 seconds. 2nd and 10.

Share this:

After catching ball, he drives up field for first down rather than getting out of bounds. Redskins timeout. It's 1st and 10 at their own 43.

Share this:

Back to Hightower and he gets loose for the first here.

Share this:

Grossman dumps it to RB but h'es upended immediately.

Share this:

Redskins backing up. That's OK, Grossman likes a challenge.

Share this:

Ball comes out to 19 or 20 but their is laundry on the field. Officials confer and decide no holding on play. Someone threw a flag for it. But it didn't happen. OK? OK.

Share this:

Bailey hits another field goal to put Cowboys ahead. The 3rd and 21 to Dez Bryant is the play of the game thus far. Can Grosman change that?

Share this:

After stretching the ball out to his right, Choice saves a timeout for Redskins by going out. FG team on with 1:52 to play.

Share this:
@ michaelombardi : Dumb time out by Skins. Never call a time out under 207. It gives the opponent the option to pass and not lose anything. Dallas blew it

Share this:
@ KingJames : #Romo

Share this:

It's 1:58 remaining and Boys face 3rd and 9 at 24.

Share this:

Cowboys running it with Choice. Redskins timeout with 2:03 on clock. Maybe I've missed it in the myopic haze of live blogging but have we gotten a straight answer on where Dez Bryant goes when just disappears for these long stretches? He should have been doing this all night?

Share this:

Is tacked onto end of the run. All of a sudden, Boys are in field goal range and there is 2:08 on clock. Wow.

Share this:

Moving to his right as blitz comes and he finds DEZ BRYANT?!?!?!? for a big gainer. 30-yard gain for first down.

Share this:

Romo goes hot to Robinson but he can't catch it. 3rd and 21 with 2:20 on the clock.

Share this:

With blitz showing, Romo is changing play and snap comes way early. 2nd and 21.

Share this:

He makes a nice snag on ball behind him up the middle. 1st and 10 and 41.

Share this:

Picks up 7 on first down to right sideline.

Share this:

Covered well, again. Boys on ball inside their own 20.

Share this:

Rex in 'gun, Rex forced from pocket and he has to throw it away. 4th and 17. Punt coming.

Share this:

Refs claim Rex was down. Third down and a heck of a lot.

"Great game by Romo"

Huh? Did you actually watch any of it?

Dallas made even the hapless Skins look good.

All you need to know about Jon Gruden as a strategist:

Its 16-12 Redskins with 7:00 left in the game, Cowboys down at the Skins' five-yard line, third down coming up and Gruden says: "Well looks like Jason Garrett (Cowboy coach) finds himself in two down territory here."

In other words, Gruden is suggesting that should the Cowboys not score on third down, they should forsake the FG on 4th and go for it.

And potentially come away empty handed as opposed to a sure three.
Trailing only by four.
With seven minutes left.

I swear, if you listen to this guy closely, you wouldnt want him coaching your kid's Pop Warner team.

What did he say on fourth, go for it?

If he did, that wasn't wise. However, he still has more Super Bowl head-coaching titles than Garrett, you and me combined.

I don't recall what he said on fourth, which I think is irrelevent. The point is, it wasn't anything close to being "two-down territory" on 3rd down. The 'boys are down by four w/ seven left. You kick a fg, hold, and kick another, which is exactly what they did.

NO ONE would go for it on fourth, unless the ball's at the one-foot line.

DeThugalo Hall needs an anatomy lesson. Instead of winning with his helmet in the ribs, he lost with his hand on a facemask!!! LOL!! If you cannot walk the walk, don't talk the talk.... GO BOYS!!
